The offices of the Student Federation of the University of La Serena (Pení #845) are receiving help for the victims of the northern part of the country.

Since this Thursday, March 26, the FEULS, together with the volunteers Rebelarte and La Cuarta por Chile, are collecting help in their offices (Pení #845) for the areas affected by the frontal system that already has thousands of people affected.

In the Federation there is already a group of volunteers receiving mainly water, non-perishable food, diapers, hygiene supplies and shelter, which are being separated and then placed in a hopper truck that will go to one of the most affected areas.

Thus, the University of La Serena joins the #LaSerenaAyudaalNorte campaign in which the INJUV and the Regional Government are already acting.

With an entertaining ceremony where the preschoolers were the protagonists, a new academic year began.

The Los Papayitos Kindergarten began a new school year. That is why a ceremony was organized that was attended by authorities from the University of La Serena, headed by the general director of Student Affairs, Mg. Miguel Zuleta, the coordinator of the Student Welfare Department, Patricia Astroza, officials, students and representatives of the establishment.

The Los Papayitos Garden was born in 2006, given the need for ULS students to have an educational establishment that provides care and knowledge to their children, while they fulfill their academic obligations.

In this regard, Mg. Zuleta valued what the establishment represents for students who are already parents. “Kindergarten is essential in everyone's initial training, there we learn values, soft skills and knowledge, therefore, it is of great help to our students, since they have the children in a garden where they feel comfortable. "They study calmly to be able to achieve their professional degree in the appropriate time," he said.

Likewise, the parent and ULS Pedagogy student, Dangello Villar, highlighted the importance of Papayitos for the care of his daughter, since it makes it easier for her to finish her studies. “It is important, as senior students, we have practice in the morning and classes in the afternoon, so the only garden that has an extension of hours according to these needs is Los Papayitos, so both by choice and by necessity we have our daughter here,” he said.

“This is an important opportunity for the family to participate and see the connection we have with the University. Also so that they appreciate the importance that the garden has for the students and the support we provide, since we try to do the best possible for them," said the director(s) of Los Papayitos, Ana Montecinos, emphasizing the dedication with which Every professional who works in the garden does their job, to give the best for the preschoolers and students of the ULS.

As part of the 2015 welcome, the children offered an artistic presentation specially prepared for the guests, parents and educators. Later they finished the day with a get-together in which they shared with their parents and guests.

The inauguration of the remodeling and modernization of the student facilities was part of the commemoration of the thirty-fourth anniversary of the University.

University authorities, headed by the Rector, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés; directors of the institution; leaders of the Student Federation of the University of La Serena, chaired by Mario Contreras; former student leaders; and representatives of the Career Student Centers; They participated in the inauguration of the improvement of the FEULS facilities, located on the Ignacio Domeyko Campus.

This long-awaited work was possible thanks to the project managed jointly by the students and the General Directorate of Student Affairs, which sought the remodeling and modernization of the student facilities. To this end, students and authorities held a series of meetings on campus, in order to evaluate the needs to better equip the organization's offices and achieve better conditions for the students.

Regarding the improvement of the quality of the physical spaces of the FEULS, the director of Student Affairs, Mg. Miguel Zuleta explained that the complete change of roof, installation of American ceiling and ceramic floor, replacement and repair of doors, improvement of bathroom, kitchen, electrical system, lighting, interior painting, communications, installation of electric water heater, among others, was considered. other works. In addition, he stated that equipment and furniture will soon be delivered, which will be defined jointly with the students, according to their requirements.

The Adult Preventive Medical Examination (EMPA) is absolutely free for first-year students and to take it they must reserve a time on the platform www.alumnosuls.cl.

For the third consecutive year, the Department of Student Health, dependent on the General Directorate of Student Affairs (DGAE), is carrying out the Adult Preventive Medical Examination (EMPA), and the Oral Health examination for first-year students of the U from La Serena.

In this sense, the head of the Student Health Department, Néstor López, stressed the importance of this benefit for new students, since it allows future health problems to be detected or measures to be taken if a condition already exists. “For 3 years we have been developing the Adult Preventive Medical Examination for all students who entered this year, which is complemented by the oral health examination; These exams are free and we want to achieve coverage of at least 90% of the students,” he stated.

It should be noted that to take the EMPA, students must reserve a time through the website www.alumnosuls.cl and arrive fasting at the time of the exam. For this purpose, a complete team of professionals and fifth-year students of the Nursing program of this university were available.

Finally, doctor Néstor López emphasized the call to all students who entered the ULS this year to take advantage of the opportunity to take the EMPA and the Oral Health exam. “This is an excellent opportunity to help yourself, what is called self-care, which means taking care of personal health for which each person is primarily responsible. Health is the responsibility of each one of us,” he concluded.

The TNE 2015 recard process continues for students who did not complete the process during the month of November and December. From the 2nd to the 31st of January, the students who did not take their picture for the new TNE will be able to do so at the Emach offices, at Calle Brasil #591. Hours of operation are from 09:00 a.m. to 17:00 p.m.

Jointly, the Student Federation of the University of La Serena and the General Directorate of Student Affairs (DGAE), formally delivered a multifunctional photocopier to the Student Centers of the Pedagogy in Basic General Education and Agronomic Engineering of the Limarí Campus. , located in the city of Ovalle. 

The photocopier - which is added to the one delivered a few days ago to the CEC of Music - was received by the members of the Pedagogy Student Center, who together with the CEC of Agronomy delivered the project to the FEULS.
