The director of the Garden, Valeria Milla, expressed her satisfaction with what was done during the week, which served to strengthen ties between all those who participated in the activities. “The participation of parents in most activities is highly valued, even more so at this time of the year where they have a heavy academic load,” she commented.

In this sense, Jesús Gómez, nursery manager, appreciated the possibility of participating in the nursery week. “It is the first week of kindergarten in which I participate with my daughter, it was nice, it is seen that the parents put a lot of effort into making sure everything turns out well for their children and a bond is created,” he stated.

Likewise, Sofía Villalobos, a student at the University and manager of the garden, stressed the importance of this type of celebrations that is directly related to the union of all those who make up the garden. “It is a pretty nice week, because it is the time when the parents get closer to the garden, there is more unity, the parents commit to participating and helping the aunts. It is even the time when dads can get to know each other, so in addition to being a party, it is a time when dads can enjoy each other,” she mentioned.

tne process 1

From November 17 to 21, photography for TNE 2015 will be taking place at the Isabel Bongard Campus Amphitheater. On Thursday and Friday the process will take place at the Coquimbo Campus Casino and the Limarí Campus Library respectively.

La National Board of School Aid and Scholarships (JUNAEB) announced a new National Student Card (TNE) for 2015. For this reason, at the University of La Serena the process of taking photographs of students began. It should be noted that in the Coquimbo Region there are more than 18 thousand Higher Education students who must complete the procedure, of which more than 4 thousand belong to the ULS.

Among the new features that the new TNE will have are its strict security measures that seek to avoid falsifications or misuse. Currently the TNE is made based on PVC, however, the institution is working on a new technology that would be implemented starting in 2015. The new format will be polycarbonate, similar to the identity card, which will imply greater quality and durability for the students.

The procedure has no cost, you only have to present the up-to-date identification card and the current TNE.

The director(s) of Student Affairs at the ULS, Alex Arancibia, stressed the importance of students coming to the campuses where the process takes place. “We call our students to do the TNE recarding, which for this week is absolutely free (…), the call is for them to come, all the conditions are met, the process takes less than a minute and we are from now until Friday. We are even going to have a presence on the Coquimbo and Ovalle campuses,” he indicated.

Meanwhile, the director of Junaeb, John Cortés, emphasized the quality that the new TNE will have. “In this new card, the weight, security and quality is better than what it currently is. The idea is that each year the seal is renewed and not the card and avoid tedious processes,” he said.

Finally, the Minister of Transportation, Oscar Pereira, highlighted the importance of respect between public transportation drivers and the students themselves. “The call is to the transportation unions, to the students, that we seek mutual respect and that there is good use of the card,” he concluded.

social assistant day

The activity was attended by the Rector of the University of La Serena, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés, who, in the framework of the meeting, highlighted the work carried out by social workers at the University.

Within the framework of the celebration of Social Worker's Day, this Tuesday, November 11, an activity was organized whose objective was to recognize the important work carried out by those who work in this area at an institutional level, in addition to analyzing the work carried out with a view to improving management guidelines that allow to deliver a better attention to the users.

The activity was attended by the Rector of the University of La Serena, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés, who, in the framework of the meeting, highlighted the work carried out by the social workers at the University, noting that "the work that you carry out is very important since they constitute a fundamental link in the chain of support for both our students and officials. We know that behind each of the professionals who work in this area there are people who with dedication seek to improve the management and service that our University provides to people every day”.

Also participating in the opportunity were the director of Human Resources, Héctor Bugueño, the director(s) of Student Affairs, Alex Arancibia, and the coordinator of the Student Welfare Department, Patricia Astroza.

Present on the occasion were the 15 social workers who currently work in the Department of Student Welfare, and the assistants from the Department of Student Health and Human Resources of the University, who received recognition from the authorities.

A Little History

In our country, the profession of social worker has its origin in the year 1925, date when, at the initiative of Dr. Alejandro del Río, the first School of Social Service was created under the wing of the National Board of Charity.

In Chile, the Day of the Social Worker is celebrated, in commemoration of the milestone marked by the discipline in 1950, in which an intense day of analysis and debate on professional work was implemented, developed from November 6 to 11. of said year.

The closing of the day resulted in two events of great importance: firstly, November 11 is declared as the day of the Social Worker and secondly, the Federation of Social Workers of Chile is constituted, until the creation of the College of Worker Assistants Social, in October 1955 by Law No. 11.934.

dgae encounter

This unprecedented meeting was convened by the Student Welfare Department of the DGAE.

With the aim of greater coordination between the various entities related to the socioeconomic accreditation of students, the University of La Serena held a meeting in which the social departments of the different municipalities participated, as well as the SECREDUC Region of Coquimbo. The meeting, held in the Ignacio Domeyko Campus, was valued by those attending.

In this sense, the representative of SECREDUC of the Coquimbo Region, the deputy coordinator of Higher Education, Pablo Espinoza, expressed his recognition of the initiative. "First of all, congratulate the University of La Serena because it is the first time that in the region we have the opportunity to talk, the Ministry of Education, the University and the social departments that have a fundamental role in the accreditation process, social reports , to deliver the benefits to the students. Our interest is to deliver all the benefits and therefore we appreciate the opportunity that the University has given us," he stressed.

Likewise, Katherine Ardiles, from the Antena Municipal Delegation, valued the opportunity for coordination and dialogue. "I think that from now on there will be more coordination from the municipality with the University on the issue of scholarships (...), these instances are good to unite criteria and reach a consensus like the one reached now," he said.

Meanwhile, Patricia Astroza, coordinator of the Department of Student Welfare of the University of La Serena, expressed that “at the initiative of our University, the Department of Student Welfare, we coordinated with SECREDUC, the Department of Education, to convene the departments of the municipalities of the region and this has a direct relationship with how we support ourselves for the socioeconomic accreditations that allow access to benefits, student aid, scholarships or solidarity funds for young people who enter the University and come from all the communes", he explained.

Finally, Astroza pointed out that it hopes that this initiative continues to gain strength and consolidate over time. "It is the first time that this meeting has happened and we hope to continue consolidating this work network in the future, with the Ministry of Education and of course with governmental and non-governmental bodies that support the process," he concluded.
