La Tuna San Bartolomé of the University of La Serena will celebrate its 25 years of life with two great events. The first of them will be held on Thursday, December 10 in the commune of Paihuano, in coordination with the municipality, and in which the Tuna Femenina Azahares of the ULS, the Tuna San Bartolomé and as special guests the Tuna Trovadores will be presented. from the University of La Frontera of Temuco. The Paihuano Municipal Stadium will be filled with this music, joy and tradition from medieval times, which reached our continent and country, expanding and lasting for almost a century.

tuna sb2This celebration culminates on Saturday, December 12, with a great main show in front of the Regional Municipality, in the city of La Serena, where the Estudiantentina Grail de Trova de Coquimbo joins these aforementioned groups. The main anniversary gala has the support of the Illustrious Municipality of La Serena.

The director of the musical group, Mauricio Cortés González, and its members, invited all the public who love these ancient traditions “to enjoy this free show on December 10 at 20:30 p.m. at the Estadio Techado de Paihuano and the Saturday the 12th at 20:30 p.m. in front of the Regional Administration.”

The Tuna San Bartolomé of the ULS, whose founder is the remembered professor Sixto Cortés Alcayaga, was created in 1990, thus becoming the first University Tuna in the Coquimbo Region. Since then she has toured the country and has been invited abroad to show his art. The group belongs to the Department of Extracurricular Activities, a unit dependent on the General Directorate of Student Affairs (DGAE) of the state campus.

The “Papayitos” Kindergarten and Nursery Room began a new enrollment process, which concludes on January 15, 2016. Marisol Avilés expressed the relevance of the prompt completion of the procedure, due to the places available at each level. “It is important to bring all the papers when applying and to go to the garden to apply,” said the professional.

The “Papayitos” Kindergarten and Nursery Room was born in 2006, given the need of the students of the University of La Serena with children, so that they had a place of care and that also provides knowledge while the students complete their academic studies.

Various recreational activities enlivened the week in the kindergarten.

The group presented the work “El Pago de Chile” at the UCN Cultural Shed and at the Palace Cultural Center in Coquimbo.

The Experimental Theater of the University of La Serena held two presentations of the play “El Pago de Chile”, written and directed by Professor Claudia Hernández, at the III University Theater Meeting and which brought together theater groups from various universities in the country , with the special participation of the Yepocá Theater Company of Brazil.

The Universidad Católica del Norte, Coquimbo headquarters, organized this meeting, where the ULS Experimental Theater group performed on two occasions, both with great success, at the UCN Cultural Shed and at the Palace Cultural Center.

theater exper2Regarding the possibility of presenting at this meeting, Margarita Castro, student of Tourism Administration and member of the Experimental Theater Group, stated that “it is too enriching, because one knows other types of theater passions from other universities, in addition to that of Brazil and different types of contexts and opinions of people who study other types of careers regarding theater,” he said.

Likewise, the coordinator of the Department of Extracurricular Activities, Mauricio Castillo, valued the participation of the ULS theater group in this national meeting. “I must recognize the work of Claudia Hernández, director of this group, who was not present during the III University Theater Meeting, because she was in Mexico at the International Meeting of Women Poets in the Country of the Clouds in the State of Oaxaca.”

Finally, Castillo highlighted the students, who despite not being with Director Hernández, gave an excellent presentation. “It was the students who led this participation, even when the professor was not present, which speaks well of our students and University,” she concluded.

The outstanding musical group was present at the meeting that brings together the extracurricular departments of different houses of study in the country, which took place at the University of Concepción.

Integrarte University Network had a new meeting and this time the University of Concepción was in charge of receiving various artistic and cultural groups from the participating universities. On the occasion, the group from the University of La Serena, Alma Latina, had the mission of representing the Coquimbo Region in this meeting that took place between November 5 and 6.

In this sense, Danilo Mundana, director of the musical ensemble, expressed that “for the Alma Latina group it was an enriching experience to participate in this artistic meeting of the Integrarte network, as the only representatives of the ULS.”

Regarding the show, Mundana highlighted that “we performed a presentation of high musical quality, with emphasis on the repertoire of Latin American singing and music, raising the name of our university. In addition, the hosts from the University of Concepción made an effort to serve all the delegations in the best way possible."

For his part, the coordinator of the Department of Extracurricular Activities, Mauricio Castillo, highlighted the importance of continuing to participate in the Integrarte Network and highlighted the founding role that the ULS has. “The University of La Serena is one of the founders and has participated in all the instances, it speaks well of the department (Extracurricular), it speaks well of the University, one can exchange experiences with the other departments, learn about other realities and feel proud of what what is done here. The Alma Latina presentation was super important, highlighted by peers and colleagues and other universities,” he explained.

Important musicians from the studio have passed through the group, founded in 2000. On this occasion, the participating students were: Sofía Pérez and Enzo Tassara, Bachelor of Music; Mauricio Adasme, Byron Leiva and Juan Garrido, from Pedagogy in Musical Education; and Christian Astorga, high school student. To end the semester, a gala was held where the students revealed their vocal qualities to their classmates and the audience. 

It is already a tradition that at the end of the semester, the students of the Singing Workshop, belonging to the Department of Extracurricular Activities of the DGAE, show off their musical talent and perform in front of their classmates and guests. 

This Friday the gala was held, where the students performed songs by Víctor Jara and Gustavo Cerati, among other great artists. In this regard, the coordinator of the Department of Extracurricular Activities, Mauricio Castillo, appreciated the performances that the students put on in the Amphitheater of the Isabel Bongard Campus. “The enthusiasm of the boys was important, they all dared, a very particular group was formed this semester”, he commented.

Castillo also took the opportunity to confirm the completion of the workshop this second semester, which is carried out by Professor Danilo Mundaca. "This Singing Workshop continues and everyone is cordially invited, those who sing and those who don't to learn about music," he concluded.
