This Monday, July 7, at 16:00 p.m., the second psychoeducational workshop “Healthy Future” will be held, organized by the Student Health Department of the University of La Serena.

The activity, which will take place in the meeting room of the Department. of Health, is part of the “Healthy Future” program that provides support to students who are overweight or obese, with the help of professionals and specialists in the subject.

Lorena Bolados, social worker at the Department of Health, pointed out that in the workshop they will discuss the similarity that exists between addiction to food and drugs. “Current studies show that people who enter a weight loss program sometimes have the same symptoms as a person with addiction to alcohol and other drugs,” she explained.

In this sense, Bolados expressed that during the workshop they will see techniques to control anxiety during weight loss. “When people begin to reduce the amounts of food, they can transfer the object of addiction in this case to increasing tobacco or consuming more alcohol or they can have a dry relapse, such as dreaming about a lot of food,” he said.

Finally, it should be noted that the admission of students to the “Healthy Future” Program is throughout the academic year and has the support of the following professionals: general practitioner, nutritionist, nurse, psychologist and social worker.
