The championship brought together the 16 best universities in the discipline.

On October 9 and 10, the National University Table Tennis Championship, FENAUDE 2014, was held in the Indoor Gymnasium of the Austral University of Chile, where the team from the University of La Serena achieved a worthy fifth place among 16 teams that participated in the competition.

The ULS team was technically directed by Professor Juan Fredes and made up of students Patricio López, Pablo Tello, Rodrigo Contreras and Paolo Paolini, who were able to pass the first phase where they shared a group with the Catholic University and the local University Southern.

However, in the following round, the match against the University of Valparaíso was lost and the regional representative could not continue advancing. It should be noted that the U. de La Serena team had two first-time students in this type of national competitions among their ranks.

Finally, Professor Juan Fredes highlighted the level of the team, which is exciting for future competitions. “The team faced national teams as equals, against the public against them, and thus all had a creditable participation in the championship.”

Champions of the Higher Education Sports League

It is worth remembering that a few days ago the ULS table tennis team won the crown of the Higher Education Sports League, a program financed by the Ministry of Sports through the IND throughout the country and whose award ceremony and The regional closing ceremony took place in the Gymnasium of the Andrés Bello Campus of the University of La Serena.

On the occasion, Professor Pedro Vergara, head of the ULS Department of Physical Education and Sports and representative of FENAUDE in the region, noted that “we are proud of the results obtained. This drives us to continue developing sports in higher education. Thank the teachers, technicians and officials, who allowed us to have a great sports tournament.”
