The oboist José Luis Urquieta, musician from the OSULS, will participate in the presentation.

This Friday, April 8, the Chamber Orchestra of Chile, directed by Vicente Larrañaga, will premiere the work “Animal de Umbrales”, by the composer Esteban Correa, academic of the Music Department of the University of La Serena, where the oboist José will participate Luis Urquieta, member of the ULS Symphony Orchestra.

The two artists are active references in their specialties. Correa adds to his list of premieres for this year another work for orchestra that will be premiered by the OSULS and various chamber pieces. For his part, Urquieta is preparing the presentation of his first phonographic production that will be composed of works for solo oboe, as well as concerts outside Chile and new premieres of works dedicated especially to him.

“The work is basically a concerto, but unlike what has been done in the history of the genre, where the soloist has an openly leading role, what I try here is for Urquieta and his oboe to be more of a kind of expressive core of the orchestra. , and the latter, following the analogy, its body in continuous deployment. This formal conception is very possible that it derives from the work that I have done with José Luis for some time, based primarily on the creation of music for solo oboe, with a character very settled in the monody. This closeness to a unitary horizon and the consequent distance to vertical taxonomies, also the result of a relationship of mutual collaboration with the performer – a position that does not evade a political background for me – was what I wanted to poetically inoculate the concerto paradigm, keeping in mind the common that has been in this genre the surreptitious and unconscious echo of a social order established in a dialectic of the privileged few and the marginalized many,” commented Esteban Correa.

The musician added that “this is why I greatly value the possibility of working with the Chilean Chamber Orchestra, with a clear democratizing vocation regarding musical art in our country, as demonstrated by the free seasonal concerts and proximity to diverse audiences through their constant tours.”

Meanwhile, José Luis Urquieta indicated that “it is a great opportunity to be able to show the work that I have been doing with national composers, this is the third direct collaboration that we have done with maestro Correa and as always he brings out the best of the technical and oboe musicals. The rehearsals with the Chilean Chamber Orchestra have been fantastic, Maestro Larrañaga did a wonderful preliminary work and when I joined everything was very fluid, they have dedicated a lot of time to working on the piece which is always appreciated.”

The presentation will take place at 19:30 p.m., with free admission, at the Municipal Theater of Ñuñoa, Irarrázaval 1564.
