The Aula Magna Ignacio Domeyko was the scene of the presentation of the pedagogical work “Who Killed the Eight?: Unveiling Mathemagic Mysteries”, by the theatrical cast of the Extension Directorate of the University of La Serena, Étéuls. 

This comedy, in which the identity of the number eight killer is revealed in an entertaining way, addresses particular topics in mathematics such as number theory, which includes natural numbers, prime numbers, decompositions, prime factors, among others.

Two attractive activities will be part of the offer that the Extension Directorate of the University of La Serena will present in its new line of cinema for 2015. The first will address works by the German director Werner Herzog in the cycle titled: “Herzog: the filmmaker of the extraordinary”, which begins this Wednesday, March 25. On the other hand, a second season of this line will be the “Retrocinema” series, which will begin its presentations in mid-April.

The cycle “Herzog: the filmmaker of the extraordinary” includes the exhibition of three films for all viewers: “Aguirre, the wrath of God”, “Nosferatu” and “The cavern of forgotten dreams”, a series of presentations with free admission , which will feature comments from transpersonal psychologist Mauricio Cerda Beroiza. 

The inaugural activity of the cycle will take place this Wednesday, March 25, at 15:00 p.m., in the ULS Exhibition Hall (Benavente 950) with the screening of the film “Aguirre, the wrath of God,” which addresses the fascinating story of Lope de Aguirre, the deranged Spanish conquistador of the 01th century, who after separating from Gonzalo Pizarro's expedition, tried to discover the mythical city of El Dorado, lost in the immensity of the Amazon. The following documentary film presentations will be held on April 08 and April 15, at 00:950 p.m., in the Exhibition Hall, located at Benavente XNUMX, La Serena. 

Regarding the director, the unit's Culture Manager, Fernando Tapia, highlighted that “Herzog is a filmmaker who has focused most of his work on the figure of the antihero, on themes that are not necessarily those of human ideals or what We look for values ​​and valuable themes for society. Therefore, the fact that in each of his films one ends up identifying with the protagonist who is not necessarily a hero is very attractive,” he stated.

“Retrocinema”

Once the first cycle is over, the “Retrocinema” proposal will continue, which will show film classics, also for all viewers, from April to September of this year.

The academics from the School of Design of the University of La Serena, Hernán Godoy and Luis Rivera, present their works to the community in the artistic exhibition "Telúrico: Erupciones", inaugurated at the Palace Cultural Center in Coquimbo.

This is a selection of works that reflects the creative work of the artists and includes painting and graphics with mixed techniques (acrylic, tempera, enamels, latex, typographic ink, charcoal, incisions, use of a roller).

The human figure and landscapes from the artist's memory are the central themes of the works in this exhibition, which will be open to the public for a month.

“Latin America and its songs” was the proposal of the newly formed group, given as a gift on a new institutional anniversary.

An applauded presentation was offered by the ULS Chamber Orchestra in the Aula Magna Ignacio Domeyko, where the The audience present had the opportunity to participate in a musical journey, appreciating renowned pieces such as: “Alfonsina y el Mar”, “Thanks to Life” and “Taquito militar”, among other works from different Latin American countries, performed with skill by the group. of artists, which on this occasion was directed by maestro Martín Herrera.

Thanks to the voice of the outstanding tenor soloist Gonzalo Tomckowiack, attendees enjoyed a varied concert full of evocations, which was announced by its artistic director, academic José Urquieta, as a gift to the community on this thirty-fourth institutional anniversary. university and also to the city.

“We see with great satisfaction that, through the Department of Music and the Extension Directorate, the teaching and artistic work generated in our institution is projected. We are proud to know that with this Chamber Orchestra and our renowned La Serena University Symphony Orchestra, we will continue to contribute to the culture of our region and the country,” said the Rector, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés, at the end of the meeting.

The purpose of the exhibition is to promote exchange and artistic work between visual artists from San Juan and the University of La Serena, to strengthen cultural ties in the region.

In the Exhibition Hall of the University of La Serena (Benavente 950) the exhibition: “Sanjuaninos in La Serena” is open to the public, where academics from the Faculty of Philosophy, Humanities and Arts of the National University of San Juan, Argentina , present their works made with techniques such as drawing, painting, photography and engraving.

The inauguration of this unprecedented collective exhibition, framed in the commemoration of the XXXIV anniversary of the University of La Serena and with which the 2015 exhibition cycle of the Extension Directorate began, has the purpose of promoting exchange and artistic work between visual artists from San Juan and the University of La Serena, to strengthen cultural ties in the region. 

As indicated by the ULS academic, Hernán Godoy, the idea arose after the trip made in 2014 by teachers from the School of Design, who raised the idea of ​​​​initiating an exchange of experiences, actions and exhibitions of visual proposals that materialize with this sample. That is why the teacher thanked the support provided by the Rector, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés, to carry out this initiative, which he also described as an opportunity to share experiences and learn.

The works presented in this exhibition belong to the academics of the Department of Visual Arts: Alberto Sánchez, Federico Levato, Federico Hueso, Emanuel Díaz, Ariel Aballay, Graciela Pérez, María Gabriela Riveros, Mariela Limerutti and Silvina Martínez.
