On this occasion, the group invites the entire Ovallina community to attend on Wednesday, November 26 at 16:00 p.m. to the Auditorium Hall of the Municipality of Ovalle (Vicuña Mackenna 441), where you can enjoy an exhibition that will feature the participation of the “Imán” theater group, folklore, the Amaya choir and, as usual, a group from the visited town. 

This activity is organized by the Extension Directorate of the University of La Serena, within the framework of the School for the Elderly.

In the activity, the dental surgeon, Matías Letelier, will explain what precautions should be taken before dental care.

Next Tuesday, November 25, at 11:30 a.m., the fourth and last conference of the cycle “The importance of taking care of your oral health” will be held, given by academics from the Dentistry program at the University of La Serena. The activity, organized jointly by the ULS Extension Directorate and the aforementioned race, will take place at the Extension Center of the state campus, located at Prat 446, La Serena. 

“How my diabetes and hypertension affect my oral health” is the title of the conference that will be given by Dr. (c) Matías I. Letelier Muñoz, dental surgeon, specialist in oral implantology, specialist in oral rehabilitation and assistant professor of the career of ULS Dentistry.

According to the professional, this cycle will end by focusing on general issues, but often unknown to the community, and how these can affect or what implications they have on dental care. “What we are going to focus on in this talk is two of these diseases that are the most common, hypertension and diabetes, to see what the biological implications are, the damage they cause to our oral and oral health, not only to the teeth. , but also manifestations in the mucous membranes and see how we can deal with it in a better way, the controls that are necessary to go to the dentist and see certain manifestations, see the disease," Letelier said.

Likewise, the dentist commented on the importance of being informed about the implications of these diseases, since it is common to see that diabetic patients lose teeth at a much younger age and are also prone to having periodontal infections. “There are gum infections much more commonly than in a healthy patient,” indicated the rapporteur, adding that any situation, disease, manifestation, syndrome or symptom must be reported before any dental procedure.

As part of the cycle of academic conferences “Abriendo Horizontes”, belonging to the School for the Elderly, organized by the Extension Directorate of the University of La Serena, the last conference organized for this year 2014 will be held. The activity titled “Prevention and Care of the Respiratory System in the Elderly”, will be directed by the Kinesiology academic Mg. Álvaro Puelles Díaz.

The invitation is for Monday, November 24, at 17:00 p.m., at the ULS Extension Center, where the academic will seek to teach how to stay healthy from the point of view of respiratory health. In this regard, Álvaro Puelles referred to the objective and the planned modality for the activity. “The format of this conference is to try to make the older adult another student, to feel like a university student receiving top-level information. We are going to try not to be petty in our vocabulary, we are going to talk about things as they are, and if there are doubts or queries, well the idea is also to generate discussion. The objective of this is to make a class done by hand even with the knowledge that people bring, we highly value the experience and all the growth that people have had in relation to this topic (...), we like that there is interaction", he emphasized. 

This activity is free of charge and has the collaboration of the Kinesiology Career and the Los Andes Compensation Fund.

This activity has an associated workshop to, through practice, raise awareness about how to breathe correctly. This instance aims to generate a space for conversation and perhaps discussion on this type of topic. 

 “Minorities and their intellectuals: The role of evangelical intellectuals in Chile” is the title of the last conference of this cycle organized jointly by the Directorate of Extension and the Department of Psychology of the University of La Serena. “Psychology and Contemporary Society” is a cycle of academic conferences that once a month gave the community the opportunity to learn about and discuss certain topics of psychology that are common in society. 

In a clear and simple way, various topics such as: internal guides, entry into the world of work, some projects in which academics from the University of La Serena are currently working, were part of the topics addressed during this year 2014. 

In this last activity, the invitation is for Wednesday, November 19, at 11:30 a.m., at the ULS Extension Center, Prat 446, La Serena, where the academic from the Department of Psychology, Mg. Dr. © Francisco Donoso Maluf, based on the findings of a Regular Fondecyt Project, will analyze the psychosocial, political and cultural roles played by the most relevant Chilean evangelical intellectuals of the last 50 years. 

"I extend a broad invitation to this conference that is going to talk about the role of evangelical intellectuals in Chile, but at the end of the conference I also want to incorporate some elements or conclusions that allow us to think about the role that intellectuals may be playing and particularly public intellectuals also from other minorities in our country. It is a broad and open invitation so that we can share and perhaps discuss some ideas about this type of topic,” said Donoso.

With the objective of making the property appraisal process comprehensively known, from the concept of regulations to technical aspects for better work development, the Training Office of the University of La Serena, in its second version of the year, He trained more than 20 people, including architects and workers in the field of appraisals, construction, architecture and the real estate market.

The “Real Estate Appraisals” course lasted 36 chronological hours and its speaker Francisco Alcayaga, through his experience, delved into the different areas and concepts about properties. “We were able to introduce them to the world of appraisals and for them to understand the concept of the real estate market, the appraisal methods that consider replacement, profitability and comparison so that finally they, in their professional lives and in their daily work, can understand the concepts of appraisals and to be able to determine commercial values ​​of some properties,” said the professional in charge of the training.

Alida Iturrieta, who is a property broker, decided to perfect herself in this area in which she works every day, highlighting the exhibitor's great experience. “Personally, I was very satisfied with the course and with the knowledge I acquired for my professional life.
