Through 4 practical-participatory modules, different technological tools were addressed such as digital whiteboard, educational websites, Google Drive, among others.

With the aim of satisfying the requirements of the students of the Scuola Italiana of La Serena regarding digital tools and platforms that support the work of teachers and student learning, 45 teachers, all of them permanent, were trained in the course “Digital resources to support teaching” that the Training Office, belonging to the Extension Directorate of the University of La Serena, carried out for 16 chronological hours through sessions of a practical and highly participatory nature.

Currently, the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in teaching is an increasingly necessary reality, which contributes to improving attention in the classroom and supporting the learning and teaching processes of students. The general pedagogical coordinator of the Scuola Italiana, Fabiola Méndez, pointed out that “today's students are digital natives and teachers are not. Therefore, we have to insert technology into our pedagogical practices and mainly, this arises from a need for teachers in view and considering that we need to renew our practices according to the characteristics of students today," said the coordinator. of the establishment, who intends to continue training their teachers in this and other areas that aim to develop the intellectual abilities and skills of their students.

The professor of the establishment, Federico Albertini, pointed out the atmosphere that was generated in said course and how this, together with the knowledge provided, would benefit his work as a professional. “The training seemed very good to me, very dynamic since it provided a lot of will, because we saw that it was fun, it was fast, so it worked in that sense. I loved the spirit it transmitted because we dealt with different levels of knowledge, but some were a contribution of true knowledge, the use of PREZI for example” concluded the Italian language and culture academic.

The training was given by the coordinator of the Center for Educational Informatics (CIE) and academic of the Department of Mathematics, Margarita García, who classified this course as “an interesting, motivating initiative, since we have experience regarding initial teacher training and also a job that has to do with the entire incorporation of technologies, of ICT into the school environment.” Likewise, he explained that "the topics discussed in the training were digital resources for educational innovation, work was done with educational websites, a digital whiteboard, presentation software in PREZI and the Google Drive resource, for everything that "It is the concept of education in the cloud, the possibility of working with external servers, official websites, so that children can select appropriate information and the integration of the digital whiteboard into the classroom," said García.

For those who want to know the varied range of courses that the ULS Training Office offers to the community of the Coquimbo Region, you only have to go to its offices located at Amunátegui N° 890, in La Serena, or by calling 2204172 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. sky expo 1

The exhibition, which begins its exhibition in La Serena for the first time, already has an invitation to be exhibited outside the country.

Interested in astronomy, photography and especially astrophotography, they gathered at the opening of the exhibition “Alaxpacha Jayri: Our night sky”, a collective exhibition that exhibits different images of the night sky, taken at different astronomical observatories and sites. close to the regions of Coquimbo and Atacama. This exhibition will remain open to the public until October 30 in the Exhibition Hall of the University of La Serena.

“Alaxpacha: dark sky and Jayri: night without a moon”, had a large audience, speeches from the organizers, a talk on how to take these images and two musical interventions, which began this exhibition organized and coordinated by the Department of Physics and the Extension Directorate of the U. de La Serena.

The works correspond to people closely linked to Astronomy and photography, who, coordinated by the ULS Astronomy Group and the curator Manuel Paredes, formed a group of 6 people who today make up the authors of the exhibition; Manuel Paredes - journalist, Gemini Observatory; Ariel López - scientific operator, Gemini Observatory; Hernán Antonio Stockebrand - student and astrophotographer; Nicolas Jongis - educator and photographer; Yuri Beletsky - astronomer, Las Campanas Observatory; and Consuelo del Pilar González - Lic. in Education, Las Campanas Observatory. They exhibit 20 photographs of the night sky and 4 banners of astronomical science images processed by four astronomers from the Astronomy Group of the University of La Serena, which were obtained with different instruments belonging to different terrestrial and satellite astronomical observatories.

In this regard, Verónica Firpo, coordinator and manager of the exhibition, expressed that “the main idea is to try to reflect the good quality of the sky in these regions of Coquimbo and Atacama, and of course the preservation of this sky, above all things. that it be preserved, that new generations can enjoy this sky, and try to ensure that light pollution, with the advance of large cities, does not cover it, allowing us to continue enjoying it (...). So let's try to prevent this, to ensure that light pollution does not reach these areas. It is not for nothing that the best observatories are being located in these areas, in these regions, and they are betting big,” she said.

sky expo 2For his part, Manuel Paredes, highlighted that "to do astronomy it is enough to look at the sky, it is not necessary to have a super powerful telescope, nor to have an ultra-technological, very expensive camera, but simply to look at the sky, we have the possibility of looking internet and know the objects that are in the sky, simply going to the internet and searching, this is a way to motivate the public, to motivate children, young people, to look up and take advantage of the quality of the sky that there is here in the fourth region and that does not exist in other large cities.”

It is worth mentioning that, although this exhibition was created to be presented in La Serena with mainly regional exhibitors, it already has invitations from abroad to take the works on a traveling tour to Argentina and France.

This exhibition will remain open to the public until October 30 from Monday to Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 14:00 p.m. and from 16:00 p.m. to 18:30 p.m. and on Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 14:00 p.m. and from 16:00 p.m. to 17:30 p.m. Admission is free to the public at the ULS Exhibition Hall, located at Benavente 950, La Serena.

Nearly 700 students from different schools in the Coquimbo Region were captivated and re-enchanted with mathematics through the magic of theater.

Between applause, fun mathematical riddles and photographs with the actors, the successful pedagogical comedy “Historias Matemágicas al Cubo” ended, which performed its second double feature in the Ignacio Domeyko hall of the University of La Serena. The play, which stars the Theater Cast of the Extension Directorate, ÉTÉULS, and directed by Dr. Catalina Cvitanic and Ignacio Cáceres, addresses common mathematical problems, such as algebra, arithmetic, logic and geometry, in an innovative and creative through the magic of theater, captivating both its school audience and the teachers who teach these subjects in the different establishments in the region.

This is confirmed by Rudy Araya, a teacher at the Kid's Word school in Coquimbo, who expressed his satisfaction with the work, “I found it fantastic, the children enjoyed it to the fullest. A very entertaining and playful way to acquire more knowledge and motivation to learn mathematics, since it is a subject that in itself is not very loved and this is a way to bring children, especially the little ones, closer to loving it. , to enjoy it, to make it more entertaining. To begin with, laughter enchants and they were enchanted through this activity (…). Congratulations, I hope that all the little ones continue to be motivated in this way,” said the teacher.

Students of all ages were captivated with the different mathematical problems that were carried out through the three mini stories: “In networks with Polygon”, “Zero stress” and “The death of 8”, where the dynamic participation with the public through riddles and riddles, are part of pedagogical success. Juan Leiva, a student at the San Antonio de La Serena School, highlighted this point. “I thought the work was very good, it was entertaining and I liked that they had mathematical data, in fact I was 'stuck' with finding out my age (...). What stands out most about the play is the way they acted with the audience because I still wanted to go out to be able to interact a little more,” added the 2nd grade student.

For those who wish to be part of this great theatrical comedy, make inquiries or make reservations for the schools for the performance on October 21 in the Aula Magna of the Ignacio Domeyko Campus, you only have to go to the Extension Center, located at Prat Street 446, in La Serena, or contact the email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
