The meeting is a training initiative born in 2012 with the purpose of generating an instance of study, work and reflection on the French horn.
In the Department of Music of the University of La Serena, the Second International Meeting of Horns in Chile will take place from October 1 to 5, an event that has the support of the National Council for Culture and the Arts (CNCA) and that It will bring together musicians, professors, and university and school students, who will participate intensely in the different workshops and master classes that will take place.
The Second International Meeting of Horns in Chile is a training initiative born in 2012 with the purpose of generating an instance of study, work and reflection on the French horn, an instrument belonging to the family of bronzes, which brings together a wide number of performers throughout the country, with different technical levels and musical experiences.
The manager of the initiative is Paulo Muñoz Toledo, horn soloist and member of the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra, who has developed his musical career both in Chile and abroad. In 2012 he presented a project to the National Council for Culture and the Arts, awarding himself a fund for the execution of the first meeting, which took place at the Fundación de Orquestas Juveniles e Infantiles de Chile.
The project will have the participation of prominent teachers, who will be in charge of teaching the classes, including: Ignacio García, horn professor at the Musikhochschule in Rostock and first horn at the Berlin State Opera, Alejandro Meléndez, professor of as from the University of La Serena and the Jorge Peña Hen Experimental School of Music; Nigel Downing, professor of horn at the Hochschule der Künste Zürich and member of the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra; and Paulo Muñoz, project manager, horn soloist and member of the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra.
The Meeting has the support of the CNCA, the Foundation of Youth and Children's Orchestras of Chile, the University of La Serena and Gebr. Alexander, firm in charge of the design and manufacture of French horns.
