The next 2014 Season Concert, in addition to a lively and attractive program with great classical works, will offer the public the presentation of three talented regional soloists.

This Friday, July 18, the Municipal Theater of La Serena will be filled again with the sounds of the University of La Serena Symphony Orchestra, which on this occasion will be led by the prominent national director Pablo Carrasco.

“This concert has Rossini's Barber of Seville Overture, a very playful work of opera buffa and we will end with Beethoven's Seventh, which is a very rhythmic, fast and happy symphony, so it will be a very striking and lively concert, to which is added the presence of young talents who will perform each work as soloists,” says Carrasco.

The three “Young Talents” are Giovanni Cortés, Sebastián Rodríguez and Francisco Pallero, winners of the contest, organized by the OSULS and aimed at students specializing in different orchestral disciplines. The idea of this contest is to highlight regional musical talents, the recognition, dedication and sacrifices that this implies; added to the improvement and effort of their tutors and families.

The history of each of them is marked from the beginning by music, as is the case of the violinist Giovanni Cortés, son, nephew and grandson of prominent regional musicians, who participates and wins for the second time. “It feels great to have a new opportunity to show people and my family the progress I have made with the violin this year, with a concert with the Symphony Orchestra of the University of La Serena, at this age, which is not It is usual in the life of a musician,” said the performer, who dreams of a future dedicated to music and beginning formal studies.

For his part, Francisco Pallero, trombone player, participates for the first time in the contest. “I started about eleven years ago, encouraged by my brother and one of his friends, who recognized my conditions. Having won this contest is an important achievement,” he expressed. Today, after a lot of work and passion for music, he indicated that he has a good feeling because participating as a soloist presents a high demand and requires time to achieve his goals and continue on this path.

Meanwhile, Sebastián Rodríguez, from 4th grade, pointed out that he wants to continue playing cello throughout his life, "that's why I see this contest as an experience and an opportunity to continue in this."

In addition to the aforementioned works, the program includes the performance of each of the soloists: on violin, Giovanni Cortés will perform the First Movement of the Concerto for Violin and Orchestra K.218 in D Major by WA Mozart; Sebastián Rodríguez will offer the work Kol Nidrei op.47, by Max Bruch on cello, and Francisco Pallero will offer the work Concert Piece op.88 by Alexandre Guilmant on trombone.

All the winners are students of the Jorge Peña Hen Experimental School of Music and receive as a prize participation, together with the regional Symphony Orchestra, in the 2014 Season Concert that will be held this Friday, July 18 at 20:00 p.m. in the Municipal Theater of La Serena.

Director Pablo Carrasco, who has extensive experience leading youth groups and professional orchestras in Chile and abroad, said that “obviously all these young people have a long way to go, but without a doubt they will be very good elements in the future.” "This competition, organized by OSULS, is a fantastic opportunity for young musicians from the Coquimbo Region."

Tickets for this concert cost $3.000 for the general public and $2.000 for students and seniors.

In 45 minutes, the film portrayed part of the personal life and extensive artistic career of “Tata Picarón” that managed to excite, enchant and surprise the public.

In the Aula Magna of the Ignacio Domeyko Campus, the film “El Parra minus Parra” by Jorge Catoni and Milton Izurieta was presented, which in an “old-fashioned look” and in only 45 minutes of medium-length film portrayed the anonymous life of Óscar Parra Sandoval, the youngest of the great Parra Clan. “Tony Canarito”, as he was known for more than 60 years in his circus career, decided at the age of 84 to make himself known to the public as “El conchito de los Parra” and capture in this audiovisual record his work as a lyricist, comedian and singer-songwriter. Chilean popular.

Óscar Parra, brother of the renowned Chilean anti-poet Nicanor, the folklorist Violeta, Elba, Hilda, uncle “Lalo”, Roberto and Lautaro Parra, is the least known member of all his brothers. As expected, from this great family of worldwide recognition, “Tata Picarón” Parra, developed in folklore and in the circus field, imbuing it with his particular stamp of “huachaqueo, chuchuleo and tintoleo” that led him to separate himself from his last name, but not his guitar and continue his career with a white face and brightly colored clothes under the pseudonym “Tony Canarito”.

The film was received with great admiration and surprise by the audience, since without knowing anything about the youngest Parra, his nationally and internationally renowned surname caught their curiosity. Mexican Rita del Castillo, who has been living and studying in La Serena for more than a year, said she had never heard of Óscar Parra Sandoval and that learning about his work was a great experience. “I didn't even know it existed, obviously Violeta and Nicanor, the most famous (…) I enjoyed it quite a bit (…). Technically, the medium-length film was fantastic, very aesthetic, harmonious, musical, pleasant even though it tells a somewhat hard story (…) because in the end it is a shocking story,” commented the assistant.

For his part, Sebastián Pizarro, a ULS Food Engineering student, maintains that the humility of Óscar Parra and the anonymity in which this great circus artist decided to live captivated him, resulting in a great medium-length film. “I thought it was good because it shows the simplicity of this younger brother of the Parras, who despite everything was low profile, did not profit, as many did with the Parra surname,” he said.

The musical approach of "El Párvulo, el Sonido y la Música", considers the traditional -dancing, singing, playing- but also proposes a pre-structured alternative by focusing the initial practice from the physical matter sound and its counterpart silence, as axes that will lead the child and the accompanying adult to discover the mechanisms that transform a spontaneous sound game into “music”, into “his music”. Experimenting and knowing the raw and pre-existing material of music, stimulating research in children, discovering the origin of sound as a physical process, scrutinizing the causes that originate it, observing the effects that they perceive, "listening to silence" , the experience is playfully problematized, clearing up unknowns raised by themselves or suggested by the adult.

Olivia Concha, who worked as an academic in the Music Department of the University of La Serena (1985 / 2011), is a Chilean pianist and researcher, with a degree in Piano and a graduate of Musical Didactics from the "Giuseppe Verdi" Conservatory in Milan, Italy. A year later, he was scientific director of the International Congress "The musical creation of children and adolescents in the digital age" always on Vatican Radio, Rome.

Professor Olivia Concha listened, through the Internet, to the nine radio programs in 2011 and thought about holding an Experimental Workshop (2012) with four Music Education teachers from La Serena, Rodrigo Castillo, Gustavo Araya, Rolando Correa and Felipe Moreno. , which worked on improvisations and musical creations with digital media, following guidelines and experiments already rehearsed by them during their training in the Music Education Pedagogy career at ULS.

As a result of the good and interesting results obtained with children from 5 years old and university students from La Serena, the Workshop sent its application to the Vatican Radio Congress (October 2012), which was finally accepted. Professor F. Moreno and Olivia Concha traveled and participated on behalf of the Workshop, who brought letters of invitation to Delalande to travel to Chile, from ULS authorities, from the Universidad Academia de Humanismo Cristiano and from the Institute of Music of the PUC.
