4th bonding meeting

These meetings seek to provide a work space for the generation of alliances that enhance the development of multidisciplinary activities.

Authorities, managers and executors of the various Environment Linkage activities of the University of La Serena, participated in the fourth meeting of the ULS Internal Linkage Network with the Environment. On the occasion, the “Presentation of Linkage Projects with the Environment 2016-2017” and the presentation on “Laws on Higher Education and State Universities” were developed.

This instance is the fourth meeting of a network that was formed with the objective of disseminating and extending to the internal community, progress, achievements, outstanding results and challenges in the areas of Engagement with the Environment; and on this occasion, it was the turn of those entities that have obtained financial resources to support and enhance their initiatives in Linking with the Environment.

4th meeting link2For the Academic Vice-Rector, Dr. Jorge Catalán, this “is a great personal satisfaction and for the institution as well, to have the opportunity to learn about the sharing of the academics who were awarded these Environmental Linkage projects. Having that opportunity to meet them, see in detail what was done, the entire process and products that have been achieved and how the requirements have truly been met, such as that the University brings everything it can contribute in research, technological, professional, cultural, artistic, to the community, but at the same time benefits from that interaction with the community in their own training processes.”

Since their inception, these meetings have sought to have a work space for the generation of internal alliances that allow and enhance the development of activities or actions of a multidisciplinary nature, which impact the internal and external environment and which has also enhanced the accreditation of this house of higher education.

“This network contributes to generating a much-needed articulation between academics who carry out Engagement with the Environment. DIVEULS each supports the initiatives in this area, through dissemination, coordination, logistics, etc., but clearly it is essential that the departments and other units of the University maintain more fluid communication about the actions they develop. In this sense, we have seen with great pleasure that there are projects that contemplate interdisciplinary work,” stated the Director of Liaison with the Environment and Extension, Dr. Catalina Cvitanic.

otec uls

This recognition allows quality to be guaranteed according to national regulations and is additionally a requirement to be a provider of the National Training and Employment Service (SENCE).

The Training Office, dependent on the Directorate of Liaison with the Environment and Extension, DIVEULS, obtained its first quality certification in 2006, and from then until today it has maintained and recertified its quality management system as appropriate in annual periods. . However, the most relevant thing is that, on this occasion, it is the second consecutive year in which the external audit does not show “non-conformities”, which is a very positive result, since only opportunities for improvement have been received.

The Chilean Standard 2728:2015 establishes the minimum requirements that OTECs must have to implement a Quality Management System aimed at satisfying the needs of their clients. Through an audit, carried out by external auditors belonging to a certifying entity, it is verified that the OTEC meets the requirements and receives the formal recognition that an external entity makes of this Quality Management System.

For the person in charge of the Training Office of the University of La Serena, Pablo Sánchez, this instance “means, first of all, the opportunity to offer our students the peace of mind of being in front of an OTEC that is constantly improving and has its ordered internal processes, which undoubtedly gives us seriousness and transparency in order to offer a better service to our students.”

On the other hand, regarding the certification provided by this external company, he added that “the fact of not having any non-conformities in the last two years is something unprecedented for many companies; which strengthens us as a team and validates our work.”

Finally, the Director of Liaison with the Environment and Extension, Dr. Catalina Cvitanic, highlighted the work of the team and what this certification means, since it shows that the quality system works optimally. "Not only have we achieved maintenance of the certification, but we have passed it with excellence, which confirms that guided team work with clear processes that aim at constant and continuous improvement is synonymous with quality." Likewise, she highlighted that "the new variable that is being incorporated into the next accreditation processes in universities is quality, therefore, our OTEC can be a reference for other ULS units."

This recognition allows the Office to guarantee the quality of its processes according to Chilean regulations and to be a SENCE supplier, which means that companies can access codified courses through a tax exemption.

symphonic transmission

The visualizations respond to agreements established by the professional group with entities, media and the municipalities of Andacollo and Vicuña.

With an inspiring season and motivated to rescue musical culture and the great geniuses of Europe and Latin America, the University of La Serena Symphony Orchestra programmed the 2018 season based on 'The Symphony of Cultures', the same one that took over the Region of Coquimbo to share magnificent symphonies from around the world with its inhabitants.

symphonic transmission2The sought-after musical proposal was materialized in a series of concerts in chamber format, educational, special presentations and with a full orchestra; the latter starring an outstanding group of guest directors and soloists of great national and international prestige.

Due to the success of this season, the group belonging to the Network of Professional Regional Orchestras of the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage also established important alliances with media in the commune of La Serena, Andacollo and Vicuña as a way to enhance their cultural and musical work, and strengthen ties with their environment.

In the words of the executive and general producer of the professional group, Cristian Monreal Cortés, these agreements are very important for the institution: “having new media, which contribute to the dissemination of all our activities and concerts, will allow us to cover a greater extent territorial, reaching more and new audiences in the Coquimbo Region with our programs, and showing the community our musical work as a professional orchestra,” he said.

As part of the broadcast agreements, the regional orchestra managed to agree alliances with the Department of Corporate Communications of the University of La Serena, who broadcasts the presentations of the symphonic ensemble on the State University Television Network (UESTV), of which it forms part of the state team.

symphonic transmission3For the Coordinator of said Department, Mg. Karina Damke, “the University of La Serena finds it important to be able to disseminate those institutional activities linked to art and culture, and that have a high impact on the community. It is in this context that, through the alliance established with the Symphony Orchestra, we have committed ourselves so that UESTV can make known at a national level the work of this renowned ULS group, which carries out a series of outreach activities. of a social, musical and cultural nature in the Coquimbo Region.”

Another of the links established this 2018 was with the Vive Chile Elqui channel, signal 3 of VTR, where the concerts are broadcast twice a week. For the director and administrator of the regional channel, Cristian Rivera Contreras, one of its programmatic lines is culture “and therefore, we always wanted to have this important alliance with the regional orchestra, in order to provide our viewers, through a good quality product video and audio, a close approximation of the concerts (…). The transmission of these presentations has been well received by the public, both new and captive to learned music, and has allowed us to break down that gap that seeing a symphony concert is not something elite,” he confessed.

symphonic transmission4The work of the regional orchestra was also replicated in other destinations in the territory, reaching the mining commune of Andacollo and the heart of the Elqui Valley itself, through channel 5 Elquina TV. The agreement established with the latter Municipality, through the Events Office, contributed to highlighting the extension work of the professional ensemble, in addition to generating an archive of regional symphonic music on the television signal: “the Symphony Orchestra, with its executive production "They wanted to show their work because they not only perform concerts in La Serena, but they visit various communes in the region, including ours, and we believe that this agreement contributes to other cultural elements that have been developed in Vicuña," he stated. Ángelo Carrasco, in charge of the Office of People with Disabilities, an entity that for three years has arranged for the orchestra to visit the territory and surrounding rural sectors, to bring free symphonic concerts to the community.

For the benefit of local culture and to be able to bring learned music closer to more and new audiences, the La Serena University Symphony Orchestra has set itself the task of continuing to revitalize existing agreements and establish others with new municipalities and media.

It should be noted that in addition to the aforementioned platforms, the orchestra's concerts can also be relived from the website itself. www.sinfonicalaserena.cl, in the 'Symphony TV' tab.
