beethoven colloquium2The meeting included the participation of academics from the University's Music Department, Victoria Vial, Daniela Banderas, Fernando Guede and Gonzalo Tomckowiack, who shared their experiences around the figure of Beethoven, highlighting the genius of his symphonies and the use of the metronome in his renowned compositions.

The speaker Victoria Vial highlighted the opportunity to hold this colloquium open to the community, since it gives “the possibility of talking about Beethoven beyond the name. It is essential to take the historical context, the instruments that were used in his time, the ways of playing and understanding his compositions, it is important to discuss them, and opening this to the public allows us to understand Beethoven as a transversal figure who marks milestones; in addition to understanding the context of it and how we understand it in the current context.”

Jaime Rañiman, Pedagogy student in Musical Education, commented that “the teachers presented very well the use of instruments in Beethoven's compositions and how today this is related to the complexity in the interpretation of his works,” adding that these instances “allows us to open other points of view on the composer's work.”

beethoven colloquium3Finally, the student of a Bachelor of Music with a Major in Piano, Adolfo Ramírez, indicated that “these colloquiums allow us to have new data and new concerns that will be resolved over time, but that I am going to consider anyway because they are very complex discussions. and significant for our training as interpreters. I also highlight what was said about the technical parts of a piano, because clearly we are going to have the need to know about the history of the instrument and how it works.”

It should be noted that the development of these colloquiums is part of the current programmatic line of the University of La Serena Symphony Orchestra, allowing the community to internalize the different episodes of the life and work of Ludwig van Beethoven.
