With a series of interesting musical activities - including concerts, conferences and master classes open to the entire local community - the Music Department of the University of La Serena is preparing to hold the XIV Contemporary Music Festival “MUSICAHORA”, a fundamental and necessary space in the decentralization of cultural initiatives in the region, which safeguards the possibility of rethinking reality from music and its present, contributing to the opening of new aesthetic horizons.

This important event will last five days, from this Monday, November 20 to Friday, November 24, and will feature the participation of various creators and researchers, Chilean and foreign. "Together with them we are preparing a series of concerts, conferences, talks and master classes of an educational nature, which in some way support our social mission as a festival, which is not only to transmit music but also a thought about it, and that It is one of our biggest challenges,” explained Esteban Correa, artistic director of the event and academic at the ULS.

As part of its programming, the “MUSICAHORA” Festival includes the launch of the album “Signo Macizo”, the new work by composer Esteban Correa that was supported by the University of La Serena and financed by the National Council of Culture and the Arts, through the Fund for the Promotion of National Music. The aforementioned production includes “four works in different formats, which were recorded since 2014 by the Universidad de La Serena Symphony Orchestra itself and its string and wind ensembles,” described the musician.

This launch will be the last annexed activity of this festival and will take place at the Municipal Theater of La Serena, next Friday, November 24 at 19:00 p.m. Subsequently, the ensemble belonging to the Network of Professional Regional Orchestras of the National Council of Culture and the Arts, under the baton of guest conductor Pedro Pablo Prudencio, will give life to its IX Official Season Concert, putting the finishing touch to the XIV Festival of Contemporary Music “MUSICAHORA” with the Suite 'The Story of the Soldier', by Igor Stravinsky, by the musicians Leonardo Godoy (violin), Andrés Carvajal (double bass), Andrés Pallero (clarinet), Alevi Peña (bassoon), Sergio Fuentes (trumpet), Felipe Rodríguez (trombone) and Pablo Pallero (percussion). In addition, he will perform works of national compositions such as 'Tramas Discontinuas' by the Chilean of Croatian origin, Aliosha Solovera, and 'Animal de Umbrales' by Esteban Correa, which will be performed by the first oboe of the symphonic ensemble, José Luis Urquieta.

For the soloist of this new presentation of the professional orchestra, “it is a true honor to be able to participate and contribute with my interpretation in a work by Esteban, a friend and brilliant composer with whom I have worked on interesting projects. Furthermore, those of us who like and promote the entire contemporary music movement are proud to have these types of events in the region and to be part of this important festival. The contest has been running for quite some time and has set a national and international benchmark within the current music scene,” said Urquieta.
