'' Emotions and well-being: is it possible to manage emotions for our benefit? '' Is the name of the first talk organized by the Extension Department and the Department of Psychology of the University of La Serena within the framework of the Academic Lecture Series 2014 '' Psychology and Contemporary Society '', which will take place throughout the year, starting with the 30 in April and until the 26 in November.
This first conference will be dictated by the director of the Department of Psychology of the ULS, Dr. Mauricio González Arias, and the objective is to make known some elements of self-regulation and emotional management that emerge from the new theories of emotions and that can serve to the attendees to better understand their emotional life. The talk will be held on Wednesday 30 April, from the 11: 30 hours, at the ULS Extension Center, located at Prat 446, La Serena.
The objective of this conference cycle is to achieve an approach between the Department of Psychology and the community through talks given by academics from the University of La Serena, where their research topics will be presented in a way that can be understood by the audience without it being necessary to have a previous domain of psychology and at the same time that the topics dealt with are useful.
In general, among the themes addressed within the cycle, are happiness, cognitive psychology, myths about human sexuality, guidelines for the world of work and quality of life.
This is the third version of a work that has meant a great academic contribution by the Department of Psychology in generating instances of participation aimed at the local population, with the idea of enhancing the role of this unit of the Faculty of Humanities in the training of professionals in the field of psychology.
With regard to this third installment of the cycle, the director of the Extension Center, Dr. Catalina Cvitanic, said she felt very comfortable with this type of activity. "We are very pleased to be able to generate this type of academic conferences, either with the Department of Psychology or with other departments, because we see the need to inform the community about the academic work that is generated within the University, especially because Many times it is thought that the university specialization could not reach people clearly and easily, "he said.
