Esteban Correa will be the first guest of the “Our Sounds” cycle on Radio Universitaria FM

The prominent regional composer will be part of the debut of this new radio space, which starting Saturday, July 14, at 20 p.m., will be broadcast over the airwaves of 94.5 FM, thanks to financing from the National Music Fund, line Broadcasting of Chilean Music Radios.

University Radio FM 94.5, refines the details for the start of its new cycle of programs, dedicated exclusively to the dissemination of regional authors and musicians.

This is “Our Sounds: Musical Creators of the Coquimbo Region”, the winning project of the 2018 National Music Fund, Chilean Music Radio Broadcasting line, which was awarded for the first time by the Radio Station of the University of La Serena, coinciding with the celebration of its 55 years of existence as a means of communication.

This space, broadcast fortnightly, will initially have nine episodes in its first season, which will have a duration of 60 minutes per episode, in which an intimate dialogue will take place with the authors and composers of our area, qualifying said conversation with the sound diffusion of the musical works created by them.

The first guest of the cycle will be the prominent regional composer Esteban Correa Astudillo. The musician began his training at the Music Department of the University of La Serena, after a not-so-brief stint at the School of Architecture of this same institution.

Correa studied the old curriculum of Musical Education Pedagogy, and his interest in composition grew and consolidated, making contact with resident composers, learning the technique of counterpoint and practicing experimental composition.

Starting in 2004, he formally studied composition at the Music Institute of the Catholic University of Chile, under the tutelage of Alejandro Guarello. At the same time, her training was enriched by the links established with other students in the area, as well as with composers, young and established.

Esteban Correa did not unleash his musical and emotional ties with the Music Department of the La Serena University, since after completing his composition studies, he joined as a professor in 2007, also assuming the coordination of the Musicahora Festival, a job he performed for some years.

Soon, his interest in expanding his knowledge and continuing to grow in his training led him to enter the Master of Arts at the Catholic University of Chile, an activity that he combined with his work as a teacher and composer, cultivating a growing interest in reflection on to themes that expand the musical discussion, a fact that has transformed his figure into a reference of thought within the academic life of the Music Department of the ULS.

His prolific musical production includes pieces for orchestra, diverse ensembles and solo instruments, hand in hand with a consistent history of premieres and performances in the main festivals in the country and also abroad, which position him as one of the most relevant musical creators of their generation and our local environment.

The biweekly space will be hosted by Rodrigo Gutiérrez, in addition to the musical production of Daniela Banderas, an academic from the ULS Department of Music, who has selected the nine musical creators from our area, who represent the sound diversity that emerges. in our territory and especially in the training and academic field existing within our University.

This program will have its official premiere on Saturday, July 14, starting at 20 p.m. and can be heard on the 94.5 frequency of the FM dial for La Serena and Coquimbo and through the online signal of Radio Universitaria available at www.userena.cl.
