The presentation was given by the Brass and Percussion Quintet, which delighted the communes of Vicuña and La Serena.

Accompanied by a select musical program, the University of La Serena Symphony Orchestra inaugurated its series of chamber music concerts with great success, led by the brass and percussion ensemble. For the opening, two communes in the Province of Elqui were chosen as the setting: Vicuña and La Serena, where the repertoire was highly appreciated by those in attendance.

camera2Pedro Cortés, a resident of the Elquina commune, came to the Immaculate Conception Parish to witness the first territorial extension concert: “It was a tremendous pleasure to have listened and taken advantage of this opportunity to see the bronze ensemble mixed with percussion. One more opportunity for Vicuña to have the Universidad de La Serena Symphony Orchestra present; So very good, grateful to the Municipality because through the agreement they develop with the orchestra, they allow professional musicians to access and deliver these concerts to us,” he noted.

The mayor of Vicuña, Rafael Vera, referred to this cooperation agreement and the opportunity for neighbors to once again enjoy the work of the regional orchestra: “We are very happy because it is now common to have their presence here. We always create the conditions because we believe that culture is very important for the development of all of us and people enjoy it. We believe that we give Vicuña another cultural space to enjoy; That is why we make every effort so that every year the University of La Serena Symphony Orchestra, through its chamber groups, can visit us year after year,” stressed the communal authority.

Subsequently, the musicians Sergio Fuentes and Cristian Monreal (trumpets), Gerson Pierotti (horn), Daniel Carmona (trombone), Francisco Cárceles (tuba) and Pablo Pallero (percussion) traveled to the Aula Magna of the Ignacio Domeyko Campus of the ULS to replicate the works: 'Brass Quintet N°1', OP. 73 (1961) by the great British composer Malcolm Arnold, 'Blues for Gilbert' for vibraphone by Mark Glenworth, 'Dialogue pour deux trompettes' by Eugène Bozza, 'Horn Vibes - three duos for horn and vibraphone' by composer Verne Reynolds and 'Quintet N°3', Op. 7 in d flat major by the Russian maestro Victor Ewald.

camera3Fabiola Martínez, who attended the second night of the chamber music concert, indicated that “I really liked this program for brass instruments and vibraphone. I don't know much about the works and their composers, but it turned out to be a very harmonious and well-selected repertoire for a venue like this, where the orchestra can be heard very well. In addition, the musicians were kind enough to explain each of the works, providing a necessary context to what we heard.”

Finally, for Paulina Mella, the presentation “seemed very nice to me, different because I had never heard the works before. I frequently come to see the orchestra's concerts, but I had never come in this more intimate format. A great experience".

The 2019 season is carried out thanks to the financing of the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage, which since 2016 has been attached to the National Budget Glosa; in addition to the important institutional support provided by the University of La Serena, through the Directorate of Linkage with the Environment and Extension (DIVEULS); the Municipality of La Serena through its Department of Culture; and on this occasion, the Municipality of Vicuña together with its Department of Events and Communications.

These days, the string ensemble of the professional ensemble is preparing to perform in the second chamber music concert.
