The closing of the contemporary music meeting will be in the hands of the University of La Serena Symphony Orchestra, within the framework of its seventh concert of the season.

The artistic and musical programming is broad and rich, and will last five days in the Coquimbo Region. This is the XVI version of the MUSICAHORA Contemporary Music Festival, which has a billboard that varies from talks and conferences with great national exponents to concerts in the evening hours. All admission is free and without withdrawal of invitations, including the closing concert by the Universidad de La Serena Symphony Orchestra.

“In recent years, the MUSICAHORA Festival has managed to transform itself into a recognizable event within the panorama of Chilean contemporary music, and as is the case with other festivals of its type in the country and the world, in its realization we assume the possibility of updating our relationship with the musical aesthetics of the time we live in,” explains Esteban Correa Astudillo, artistic director of this Festival and academic of the Music Department of the ULS, the institution organizing the meeting.

In this mission, the final day will be conducted by the American conductor, David Handel, who will once again be present in the orchestra's season and with whom he will perform three select works, all coming from an outstanding group of Chilean composers. One of them is the absolute premiere of 'Hacia los Vientos Norteños for Orquesta Sinfónica N°452' (2019), by the composer based in Australia, Adrián Pertout, who on this occasion will visit the Elquino territory to also give the conference 'Music , mathematics and science: intuition and rationality', next Wednesday, September 4 in the Auditorium Hall of the ULS Music Department.

The program continues with another masterpiece: 'Misterios Chilotes para Oboe y Cuerdas', written for the prominent Serenense concert pianist and first oboe player of the regional ensemble, José Luis Urquieta. “Master Luis Saglie dedicated this work to me to be premiered with the Solístico de Santiago in 2017. Since then, I have played it several times with national orchestras and, on this occasion, I will have the opportunity to perform it with my regional orchestra. of La Serena', said the soloist of the concert.

Finally, 'Pacificación de Chile' will set the high notes for the MUSICAHORA program, a spectacular and authentic cantata for voices, rock trio and orchestra, created in 2013 by Esteban Correa.

The musicians invited to this closing are Felipe Aguirre and Adolfo Díaz (tenor), José Chirino (baritone), Orlando Villarroel (electric guitar), Mauricio Pizarro (electric bass) along with the ULS Student Choir, instructed by director Vanessa Medo.

The seventh concert of the 2019 season of the Symphony Orchestra will be presented in the Performing Arts Room of the Palace Cultural Center of Coquimbo (Aldunate #599), on Thursday, September 5, at 20:00 p.m. The closing night is free entry, without withdrawal of invitations, up to the total capacity of the venue.

It should be noted that this season is carried out thanks to the support and financing of the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage, which since 2016 has been attached to the National Budget Glosa; in addition to the important institutional support provided by the University of La Serena, through the Directorate of Linkage with the Environment and Extension (DIVEULS); the Municipality of La Serena, through its Department of Culture; and the Municipality of Coquimbo in conjunction with its Department of Culture.
