Film series, culinary tasting, massage and Muay Thai will be part of the activities that will publicize Thai culture in the region.

During the next few days, the Serenense community will be able to learn about and enjoy different activities that will introduce an important part of Thai culture. This is ''Roadshow Thailand 2014'', an activity organized jointly by the Extension Directorate of the University of La Serena and the Royal Thai Embassy in Chile.

This activity will take place from June 23 to 25, presenting two days of Thai cinema (ULS Extension Center) and an extensive day on June 24 where Thai culture will be brought closer to the community through an informative talk about Thailand , a talk and demonstration of traditional Thai massage, a talk and demonstration of Muay Thai (Gabriel González Videla room of the Regional Administration), and a demonstration and tasting of Thai cuisine (ULS Extension Center).

“The Thailand Roadshow project in Chile is one of the most important projects of our Embassy (…). Of what we would like to highlight in terms of our culture, the first thing that stands out is Thai gastronomy, because we as the Embassy have heard from our Chilean friends who have traveled to Thailand that they really like Thai food. Apart from that, we would like to highlight Thai boxing or what we know as Muay Thai, since today there are many Chileans who have traveled to Thailand to specifically practice this type of sport. In addition to this, we also have Thai massage, which very well represents the wisdom of our ancestors who created this discipline many years ago that can be a form of medical treatment,” said the Thai ambassador to Chile, His Excellency Mr. Surapon Petch-vra.

For her part, the director of Extension of the ULS, Dr. Catalina Cvitanic, highlighted the activities that spread different cultures. “The Extension Department has long been developing the idea of disseminating other cultures through integrated activities, which include various samples that allow the community to get an idea of what said culture represents,” she said.

The activities included in the “Roadshow Thailand 2014” have free entry, but with limited places. Invitations to participate in this great panorama will be delivered at the ULS Extension Center, at Prat 446, La Serena.
