The initiative, aimed at boys and girls from 8 to 17 years old, seeks to provide students with workshops with a vocational sense.

Registration is now open for the “Children's University, Winter 2014”, which will take place from July 21 to 25. The initiative of the Extension Directorate will open the doors of the University of La Serena to students from the region who are looking for panoramas for these winter holidays. 

The activity includes workshops that will bring the University's careers closer to the little ones in the home, giving them the opportunity to experiment for half a day in workshops on Design, Architecture, Astronomy, Kinesiology, Nursing, Chemistry and Radio.

Among the workshops offered is: “The secrets behind the colors of the universe”, an Astronomy laboratory that will consist of a brief introductory talk regarding the scales in our Universe. Then, give way to practice and give each of the attendees knowledge about an optical telescope and understand its operation.

On the other hand, the offer also includes the Architecture workshop titled “From the sketch to the work”, where a selection of great architectural works in history will be reviewed. The objective is to know the origins of Architecture, through the first strokes, the planimetry of the final project and finally the built work. The activity promises entertainment, learning, but above all, experimenting with the real functions of an architect. 

The Design workshop “Intro to papercraft”, based on a brief presentation of what papercraft is, seeks to present digital samples as examples, to develop one's own element using this technique. Likewise, basic modeling will be taught based on a common theme, in which students will generate concepts on a specific topic and apply shapes and colors to materialize a three-dimensional object.

u children 2The fourth offer is the “Nursing” workshop, whose purpose is the promotion of health and healthy lifestyles in children through interaction and knowledge of their behaviors and whether they are appropriate or not, through visual images and other media.

Another fun activity for those interested in the area of ​​health is the Kinesiology workshop “Basic anatomy and biomechanics”, which will delve into basic anatomy oriented to health sciences. First, a theoretical class will be held to introduce boys and girls to what anatomy is and then complement it with observations in tissue laboratories, models and a virtual dissection table for the assimilation of the contents taught.

As the offers are for all tastes, for communications fans the “Making Radio” workshop is offered, where professionals from Radio Universitaria FM will give a brief introduction to radio as a means of communication and the role played by the radio station. ULS. In this workshop, students will be able to learn how radio works through teamwork in creating a radio program.

Finally, one of the most striking workshops is “Colors and Chemistry”, a Chemistry workshop that will seek, with practical experiments, to demonstrate color changes between the reactants and the products formed through a chemical reaction, in order to explain some principles. of chemistry, such as chemical equilibrium or the rate of a chemical reaction.
