Specific topics of oral health in the elderly were analyzed in a conference given by Dentistry

Through a series of talks, academics from the University of La Serena seek to prepare the community to act preventively 

As the inaugural activity of the cycle "The importance of caring for your oral health", the first conference "Oral health in the elderly" was held, organized by the Extension Department in conjunction with the Dentistry career of the University of La Serena. In the activity, Mg. Cristian Oyanadel, director of the race, shared important information with the attendees, who were able to learn about the conditions of normal physiological aging and also pathologies that appear with age.  

In this regard, attendees were very satisfied with the information received and valued the opportunity for learning and knowledge. “I believe that when you are over 65 you have to worry a lot about your health, and this oral issue is very important for health, because we have seen that even medications cause us problems (…). I congratulate the University, my children all 3 studied at the University of La Serena, I think this is very important, and not only the oral education part, but everything, psychology and how one has to learn to age, that It is very important,” highlighted Laureano González.

For his part, the rapporteur valued the participation of the attendees and the interest in the topic discussed. “Very good reception, I loved the interaction with the public, they asked questions (…), there are many things that we can show as a career, I think that next year we are going to do another cycle of talks with other topics, because I think that the interest is . I am very grateful for the turnout,” Oyanadel emphasized. 

This cycle consists of four talks, given by academics from the Dentistry career, aimed at informing the community about the importance of caring for oral health and will deal with different topics of mass interest, such as: the care of milk teeth in children, oral cancer and the relationship between oral health and diseases as widespread as diabetes and hypertension. They will be presented on the last Tuesday of each month, continuing on September 23, October 28 and November 25, at the ULS Exhibition Hall, located at Benavente 950, La Serena.
