The University Radio of the University of La Serena was born on August 26, 1963 from the efforts of academics and students of the then State Technical University (UTE). In its beginnings, it transmitted in Modulated Amplitude (CA-144) from the buildings of the mechanical workshops located on Anfión Muñoz Street, in the regional capital.

In 1986, the radio station recorded two important milestones: its current name was officially established and it began broadcasting at 94.5 on the Frequency Modulated dial. Meanwhile, as of March 22, 2006, it does so officially through the online signal, which allows it to go from a radio station with local coverage (mainly the communes of La Serena and Coquimbo) to one of a global nature.

Radio Universitaria FM is characterized by being a medium with select music programming, of an institutional nature and, unlike its origins, with continuous transmission 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Purpose:

Historically, the purpose of the radio station of the University of La Serena has been to link the institution with the community, through the dissemination and information of institutional activities and current news, as well as the promotion of the arts and musical expressions. .
