Information for Foreign Students

The University of La Serena receives foreign students who wish to study one or two academic periods under two modalities: as an exchange student or as an independent student. For which the following points should be considered:
  • In the case of student exchange, the ULS has signed agreements with different foreign universities, which are based on the principle of reciprocity, which implies that the universities allocate an equal amount of quotas for the exchange between both, and in the recognition of the courses taken by the students . The exchange agreements imply the exemption of payment of tariffs although, in some cases, the terms include the payment of a basic fee.
  • Students who wish to study for an academic period under this modality should approach the Office of International Relations of their University to apply for the available places and channel their application.
  • The Office of International Relations must nominate applicants by sending an email indicating the applicant's full name, the career in which they wish to enroll, the semester they apply for and the passport number. The nomination deadlines are:
  • November 1 for the first semester of the year (March to July).
  • 1 for April for the second semester of the year (August to December).
Once the nomination is accepted, the applicant receives the application form for foreign students, in which the required background is listed.

The information about the courses you can register can be found in the following link.

At this point it is important to note that higher education in Chile implies a cost that is expressed in annual fees and tuition. In the case of independent students, only the fee for the career in which the student enrolls must be paid. Annual fees per race appear on the aforementioned website. The student who travels independently must pay the amount corresponding to a semester, which must be considered before starting the procedures for a possible academic internship.

The closing dates for the receipt of applications for both exchange students and independent students are:
  • November 30 for the first semester of the year (March to July)
  • 30 for April for the second semester of the year (August to December)

To search for subjects, international students are free to choose subjects from different careers, and even faculties. However, subjects of medical careers can only be chosen with the authorization of the department directors and / or schools. Please see the following link.

In the lower part of the descriptive sheet of the different races there is a button with which the study plan is opened, indicating all the subjects corresponding to the race.
