About 40 students from the University traveled this Thursday to the Valparaíso Region to collaborate with the reconstruction of homes for families affected by the fires that occurred at the beginning of this year.

About 40 students from different majors from the University of La Serena traveled this Thursday to the Valparaíso Region with the aim of helping in the reconstruction work in the sectors where thousands of families were affected, after a raging fire destroyed all their buildings. belongings during the summer season.

This initiative, coordinated by the Techo Foundation, seeks to involve students from different years and careers in an experience that will help with their comprehensive training. This was highlighted by the Vice-Rector for Economic and Administrative Affairs, Dr. Lilian Alvarado, who reaffirmed the feelings of the Rector of the institution, emphasizing that “it is tremendously important that these students today not only graduate with technical skills, but also "We, as a university, ensure that they are integral people, with values ​​of empathy, love for family, and going to the help of others, crucial aspects for each of them."

The students began their trip from the Andrés Bello Campus. Francisca Lobos, third-year Journalism student and head of the Voces Volunteer Secretariat, indicated that this instance “is very enriching, because it is very important that students not only share on the student side, but also get to know other realities. In addition, it is good that they share with people from other majors since it makes university life easier and more fun.”

Finally, Francisca Aguirre, first-year student of Pedagogy in Chemistry and Sciences. Naturally, she explained that she decided to participate in this volunteering because “I really like helping people. When I was a girl I was a scout, so I have that experience and I feel that it will be very pleasant to be able to help other people who really need it, I find it wonderful.”

Meanwhile, Paula Pino, regional director of INJUV Coquimbo, highlighted the participatory drive of young people, "since they are transformative instances, in which youth become part of the needs of the community."

It is worth mentioning that the students are going to meet with Techo volunteers from other regions and in total there will be 120 volunteers who will be intervening in the Valparaíso Region. The participation of USerena students was coordinated by the DGAE and the Federation.

“It is super important to have this group of students who will be able to intervene and support the construction sector taking into account that there are a thousand houses that we have to build as a Foundation. We already have a little more than 500, so all hands are always welcome,” highlighted Carlos Thenoux, intervention and volunteer coordinator at Techo.
