University of La Serena hosted the binational meeting “Agua Negra: Solidarity and Technological Territory”

At the event, where Chilean and Argentine authorities met, and which was led by the Presidential Delegate, Galo Luna, common topics were addressed regarding technology, mining, production and economy. In addition, a framework agreement for technical-scientific collaboration was signed between the Region of Coquimbo, the Province of San Juan and the University of La Serena. 

Through a fluid dialogue, the Chilean-Argentine binational meeting called “Agua Negra: Solidarity and Technological Territory” was held, where the strategic lines that will allow meeting the social demands of the populations of the Coquimbo Region and the Province were visualized. de San Juan.

The authorities of both areas showed mutual concern and established a baseline of work, which will allow the academy to play an important role in the generation of knowledge, so that it is a real contribution to the development of the committed territories.

"We are certain that the establishment of effective alliances between our regional governments, our university and the local productive sectors will allow the design of joint projects, research and transfer of applied knowledge, in accordance with the specific needs and potential of each territory, generating greater opportunities for investment, development, and sustained growth of the people we represent as public institutions. In this way, we will be able to join forces to promote sustainable economic development with a view to the well-being of all,” reinforced the Rector of the University of La Serena, Dr. Luperfina Rojas.

During the meeting, where Chilean and Argentine authorities from the various government portfolios participated, the scope of mining in both territories and the importance of maintaining a corridor that serves both countries to achieve levels of development relevant to reality was discussed, thus allowing, advance between two regions with high-standard economic potentials.

In his speech, the Governor of the Province of San Juan, Marcelo Orrego, paved the way for the future generation of a strategic alliance that serves to consolidate the idea that not only the mountain range unites the territories, but that the joint work that is It has been developing for several years now. "These are difficult times, where obviously the world is in a particular crisis and where Chile and Argentina do not escape those problems, but it is clear that I am of the position that integration can be achieved and, that is why I am here, and that is why this political definition, where I get involved and commit to a situation.”

It should be noted that this initiative was headed by the Presidential Delegate, Galo Luna, who said that "this meeting will allow us to resume actions, projects and negotiations to strengthen our integration, where the President of the Republic has also proposed and entrusted us with strengthening the mechanisms for this purpose, where our region has real commercial, economic, scientific and tourist opportunities, also highlighting that we share problems, such as drought and it is time to share technological solutions, where academia will have an important role."

Finally, the meeting culminated with a panel of experts called “Economic perspectives of the Coquimbo Region and the Province of San Juan: opportunities for binational cooperation”, which included the intervention of the Minister of Government of the Province of San Juan, Dr. Laura Palma and the Regional Ministerial Secretary of Economy of the Coquimbo Region, Pía Castillo.
