During the five days of activities, classes on specific thematic areas in mathematics, vocational workshops, recreational activities and the traditional Mathematics Olympiads will be held.

This week the call began for educational establishments to be part of the “JOMAT 2015 Camp”, corresponding to the 4th Pre-University and Vocational Mathematics Conferences that, since 2012, bring together students from the regions of Atacama, Coquimbo and Valparaíso at the initiative of students of the University of La Serena.

The initiative is organized by students of Pedagogy in Mathematics and Computing, Bachelor of Astronomy, Bachelor of Mathematics and Design, with the support of different units of the university.

The Camp is intended for young people in their fourth year of secondary school from municipal high schools, in order to contribute to the improvement of PSU results in mathematics and their vocational orientation, instilling in them a spirit of improvement and generating an approach to university life.

“The three previous versions of the JOMAT Camp have shown us that this initiative constitutes a real contribution for students who are finishing their secondary education, allowing these young people to feel like participants in an enriching experience for their academic and personal lives,” said Diego Contreras, who also explained that, in this instance, the participants are grouped by “families”, made up of members of different establishments, thus creating great ties of friendship between them.

The JOMAT 2015 Camp will take place from July 15 to 19 at the University of La Serena, with the participation of more than a hundred high school students expected.

Let us remember that this project began in 2012 as part of Entel's Chilecree Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation program.
