Groups of older adults from La Serena receive glasses to enjoy the eclipse from the ULS

Those present appreciated the gesture of the university and the presence of the first university authority.

More than 70 older adults from La Serena, representing different groups, received from the Rector of the University of La Serena, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés, the President of the Board of Directors of the ULS, Ernesto Velasco, and the mayor of the commune, Roberto Jacob, glasses to enjoy the solar eclipse on July 2.

older adults2These glasses are added to the thousands that the school has delivered, in a collaborative work alliance with the municipality of La Serena and that reaffirms its role as a scientific-educational partner of the world capital of the solar eclipse, also contributing to protection visual of the people who will observe it from different places in the territory.

At the meeting, which was marked by good disposition and joy, the older adults thanked the management of the first university authority, also highlighting the constant collaboration that the University has and the open-door policy regarding the delivery of knowledge to the people who need it, and not just the regular students of the school.

The mayor of Serena reinforced the idea of ​​being partners with the University, and requested that the university continue on the path of direct communication with the thousands of inhabitants of La Serena.

The President of the Communal Union of Older Adults, Yun Lin Moy, thanked Rector Avilés for the gesture since “in this way many older adults will have the opportunity to enjoy the eclipse, since some definitely cannot because they do not have the means; “It is very good that they take into account groups of older adults in these important events.”

Another member of the group, Sonia Rivera, said that “for us this type of gesture is very exciting, that they take the trouble to visit us, we want to make young people understand that respect for grandparents, for older adults, is important, and for the highest authority of the University to come, is to realize that we have recognition,” he assured.
