ULS participates in the second Meeting of Inclusive Work Experiences

Professionals from the ULS1799 Project of the university, referring to issues of inclusion and universal accessibility, actively participated in the meeting organized by the Inclusive Higher Education Network of the Coquimbo Region.

The University of La Serena, through the team in charge of the ULS1799 Project on inclusion and universal accessibility, was present at the second Meeting of Inclusive Work Experiences, held in La Serena in the facilities of the Gabriela Mistral Regional Library, where they had the opportunity to have the presence of authorities from the region and representatives of different institutions and companies to talk about inclusion in the workplace.

The Director of the National Disability Service, Jorge Juárez Barraza, began the day with a welcome greeting to the attendees, highlighting the scope of Law 21.015 that encourages the labor inclusion of people with disabilities. Likewise, the Seremi of Labor and Social Welfare, Matías Villalobos Botinelli, referred to the progress in the implementation of the law, indicating that to date the Coquimbo Region has 55 companies with workers with a current employment relationship registered under Law 21.015 before the Labor Directorate, which translates into 277 workers with a current employment relationship.

Also present was the Director of the National Training and Employment Service, SENCE, Carlos Covarrubias Astudillo, who presented the Labor Inclusion Program for People with Disabilities. And from the private sector, there was the participation of the Corporate Inclusion and Diversity Coordinator of ESVAL SA - Aguas del Valle, Leonardo Olmos Colarte, who presented the Diversity and Inclusion program “Opening Spaces”, whose objective is to promote an organizational culture inclusive.

During the seminar there were presentations by people with disabilities who are working in both the public and private spheres, and they were responsible for transmitting their experiences, as testimony of what they experience every day in their workplaces.

In addition, the Mutual de Seguridad announced the MAIS Comprehensive Health Care Model, aimed at reducing the vulnerability associated with work accidents and their repercussions, from a comprehensive approach. On the occasion, the Regional Coordinator of the Psychosocial Area, Ana Castillo Lazón, spoke.

Finally, the person in charge of the Inclusive Higher Education Network of the Coquimbo Region, REDESIC, Tatiana López Varela, gave her greetings and thanks to the participants and attendees of the meeting, inviting businesspeople to continue working for the inclusion of people with disabilities. disability and to comply with Law 21.015.

The role of Higher Education Institutions in the inclusion of students with disabilities and their preparation for the world of work was also highlighted.

It should be noted that the University of La Serena has been part of REDESIC since 2007 and has promoted the inclusion of students with disabilities. It currently has Project ULS 1799, whose objective is to make the minimum reasonable adjustments so that University students with disabilities can access higher education on equal terms.
