More than 300 students were accompanied in the application support process

The objective of the event was to support young people on how to best apply for university courses and resolve their concerns.

The implementation of the Application Support Centers in the cities of La Serena and Ovalle is cataloged with success, thanks to the deployment of different professionals, organized from the Teaching Directorate, through the Admission and Enrollment Department, in conjunction with the General Directorate of Student Affairs through its Department of Student Welfare, and the Accompaniment and Access programs: LEARN, PACE and I Want to Be a Professional in Education (QSPE) of the house of higher education.

Due to the country situation and the changes in the dates and difficulties surrounding the surrender of the PSU, the ULS Teaching Directorate decided to maintain the implementation of the centers. In this regard, Gonzalo Honores, Head of the Admission and Enrollment Department, expressed that “as the University of La Serena we decided to continue with the execution of these instances, as well as in other years, and deploy our teams throughout the Coquimbo Region, uniting with the efforts made by the PACE Program to reach the communities furthest from our institution.”

Honores added that there was support from the DGAE Student Welfare team, APRENDE ULS and Quiero Ser Profesional de Educación. “I have only words of gratitude for all the work of the professionals in the care and guidance of students, it has been an admission with many obstacles; However, we do our best to ensure that the 2020 admission process concludes in the best way, for the benefit of our future students,” he stated.

The centers and support points for the 2020 application in the region had various professionals, who were in charge of providing the necessary support and guidance to those who attended. The types of aid that were provided were review of scores, application simulation, scholarships and benefits, vocational guidance, and PACE Income and Pedagogy requirements.

During the sessions, more than 366 students were assisted, many of them accompanied by their families, distributed among the cities of La Serena, Andacollo, Ovalle, Combarbalá, Los Vilos, Salamanca and La Higuera.

Karla Campaña highlighted the initiative. “Meeting the students who have decided to be a teacher and guiding them in the 11 pedagogy options that our institution offers has been enriching. I perceive young people committed to developing skills to contribute to the equity and inclusive coexistence of their future students,” she said.

Regarding support in the area of ​​Vocational Guidance, Alexandra Castillo, psychologist of the APRENDE ULS Program, indicated that in relation to the vocational support provided by this team, “there was a high participation of students in the city of La Serena. The main queries focused on obtaining more information regarding the curricula, the work field of the careers of interest and how they relate to their personal life project. The applicants positively valued having professionals willing to guide this important decision."

On the other hand, Ámbar Ramírez, a qualified PACE Cup student, who attended the La Serena Application Center, expressed: “I think that coming to make my application at the center was an excellent idea, since I had many doubts about the application process. application, scholarships and benefits. I greatly appreciate the help that the professionals of the PACE Program gave me and all those who guided me, now I am leaving happy and with my application completed.”

PACE ULS Program

In this same context, the PACE program team, together with professionals from the other units of the higher education institution, provided support to all those students who had doubts regarding this application process, in the communes of La Serena, La Higuera, Andacollo, Ovalle, Combarbalá, Salamanca and Los Vilos.

The PACE team mainly supported students from the 12 establishments that the Program accompanies, in addition to students from other establishments, who with interest and many doubts, approached the support devices established in the facilities of the University of La Serena and in educational establishments affiliated with the PACE ULS Program.
