Nursing celebrates its twenty-first anniversary with a ceremony held in Coquimbo

The activity was organized by the students of the ULS Nursing program, who wanted to recognize the people who have been a fundamental part of their training and that of quality nurses for the Coquimbo Region and the country.

An emotional ceremony was held at the Coquimbo House of Culture with which the Nursing School of the University of La Serena celebrated its twenty-first anniversary. Present at the activity were the director of the School of Nursing, Pilar Bonilla, the councilor of Coquimbo, María Rosetta Paris, the director of the Health Department of the Buenos Aires municipality, Mónica Álvarez, academics, members of the Career Student Center, students of this undergraduate program, graduates, officials and special guests.

This ceremony was organized by the students of the ULS Nursing program, who wanted to recognize the people who have been a fundamental part of their training and that of quality nurses for the Coquimbo Region and the country.

This is how students rewarded the career of the academic Inés Pineda, one of the first teachers of the degree, and the civil servant Elson Romero, one of the first to be part of this unit and who continues to develop his work and collaborate with the students. They also distinguished teachers Rosa Contreras, Pamela Morales and Eugenia Urra, evaluated positively in a student survey, and teacher Pilar Bonilla for the collaboration provided to the student organizers of the IX International Congress of Nursing Students. 

“As students we wanted to recognize the teachers who have played a very important role in our training and that of hundreds of graduates of this School,” explained Diego Valenzuela, member of the Student Center of the Program. 

Meanwhile, the director of the School of Nursing, Pilar Bonilla, pointed out that “the career has been consolidated over time and has achieved very important links and its own space in the community with which it has worked during all these years. (…). During these twenty-one years, 533 nursing professionals have been trained. nursing year 2have left their mark in our classrooms and currently work in different parts of the healthcare network with great success and highly valued by their employers, work teams and users, inserted at the regional, national and even outside the country level, very satisfied to have “I chose this career and have studied at this institution.” 

Recognition of the municipality

During this ceremony, Councilor María Rosetta Paris, representing Mayor Cristian Galleguillos, gave a greeting to those present, congratulating the race for its twenty-one years of life, “training professionals of excellence and who in Coquimbo have provided a tremendous service to community". 

The municipality also presented recognition to teachers Carmen Retamal for their academic career and the work carried out with the older adults of the commune; Pilar Bonilla, as current director of the School of Nursing; and Eugenia Urra, academic who promoted the opening of this career, created in 1993 given the need to satisfy the requirements of nursing professionals in the region, in addition to the systematic decrease of nurses at the regional and national level.
