The activity seeks to generate interest in science, led by Lycal, who links knowledge with young people.

Hundreds of students from educational establishments in Ovalle participated in an entertaining experience around science. “Cinema+Science”, an initiative generated by the University of La Serena together with the collaboration of Cinepolis Ovalle, which brought scientific dissemination to the big screen.

Through the projection of audiovisual material, generated by the ULS Scientific Dissemination Office, which addresses the fascinating world of Astronomy and the interaction with an expert on the subject, the students enjoyed an innovative, entertaining and educational format. .

After the screening of Juega con Lycal (you can check it here) an interactive talk about science was held between the students and Sebastián Ortiz, a student of the Master of Astronomy.

Students from Colegio Raúl Silva Henríquez, Colegio Dalmacia, Colegio Santa Teresa de Jesús and Colegio San Juan Bautista participated, who expressed their happiness with the experience and commented that they learned a lot, laughed out loud and, above all, discovered many secrets of the universe.

Sergio Muñoz, coordinator of the ULS Science Dissemination Office, explained that the activity sought to “share science in different places, which are closer to youth. We are very happy, there was a lot of participation from the students. We wanted to share knowledge in an entertaining, enjoyable, and also educational way and they took away a significant experience. We also thank Cinépolis for allowing us to develop this innovative initiative.”

In that sense, Elsa Marambio, Manager of Cinépolis Ovalle, explained that “we are happy about this collaboration with an institution as important as the University of La Serena. "These types of events contribute to our growth and bond with citizens, because they bring cinema closer to the community from another perspective, understanding that these spaces are also part of our culture."

For his part, Sebastián Ortiz explained that “all scientists must have this responsibility of sharing knowledge. There is no point in learning, studying and preserving it only in papers and with the scientific community, knowledge must be disseminated and this activity of the ULS is essential to fulfill that mission.”

Ortiz added that “in these types of activities I see myself very much reflected in the children, because of the enthusiasm and surprise that astronomy generates in them.”

With Lycal, a culpeo fox from the region, the ULS manages to break the mold and demonstrate that even technical terms such as trajectory, parabolic shot, strength, speed and more, can be learned from everyday life and even through a strategy video game. .
