Educational establishments enjoy the play 'The Cloister of the Deer'

The work was carried out in the Aula Magna of the University of La Serena.

Within the framework of the billboard activities for the month of November at Escena Cultural ULS, the play “El Claustro de los Ciervos” was performed with great success, produced by the Merkén Theater Company and directed by Anita Contreras. The work caused different emotions among the public, since among its spectators there were also students from the La Serena English Catholic School, Trinity School, San Antonio School and the Marta Brunet Lyceum, who were the special guests of this day.

“The Cloister of the Deer” was written by César Ramírez in 2014, inspired by real events, brought to the present with topics such as homophobia, adultcentrism, school violence and the management of school institutions in the face of problems of this nature. These are topics that are developed on the stage boards so that, at the end of the play, viewers can understand, analyze, reflect and even change their perspective.

Anita Contreras, who directed the play, in addition to being an actress and singer, mentioned that “this play is based on the year 1993, because we realize that today things have not changed much, violence within educational establishments It grows every day. We know that we have a setback within education and that is why we want to convey the message, above all that more students continue to see it and also that debates can be formed within schools together with teachers.

Paula Peralta, teacher of Language and the Literature workshop, who attended on behalf of Colegio San Antonio, emphasized that “it is a wonderful instance because in general drama is experienced only by reading dramatic works from schools, and having the opportunity to Visiting the University and learning what a dramatic work is like and experiencing it, I think it is an experience that students will never forget.”

On the other hand, several of the students from the different invited establishments expressed that it was a super positive event to be able to get to know the University facilities, along with enjoying and reflecting on this work framed in the monthly activities of the ULS Cultural Scene project.
