After the success of the last editions, the Center for Public Studies will open its doors again in March so that undergraduate and graduate students can meet great thinkers who have shaped the concepts of individual and social freedom. Between March 7 and 8, through talks and workshops, CEP researchers will analyze the legacy of five influential figures of Western thought.

How did Hannah Arendt understand the concept of freedom? And Adam Smith? Or Isaiah Berlin? How do John Rawls and Niklas Luhmann differ in their understanding of freedom within society? These are part of the questions that will be discussed during the CEP 2024 Summer School, called “Social and individual freedom: Foundations of the democratic order.”

After the success of the Schools of Summer and Winter 2023, on this occasion undergraduate and graduate students will be able to analyze five great thinkers of the last 300 years to give shape to the concepts of individual and social freedom, in order to understand the foundations of the current democratic order, the scene of the events of Chile and the contemporary Western world. This, of course, in the hands of prominent researchers from the Center for Public Studies.

The idea of this free activity is for students to review the legacy of these great thinkers and how their vision of freedom is applied in the democratic order that governs us. The young people will have the opportunity to talk with the director of the CEP, Leonidas Montes, in addition to working with researchers of the caliber of Sylvia Eyzaguirre, Aldo Mascareño, Juan Luis Ossa and Mauricio Salgado.

In two days, between Thursday, March 07 and Friday, March 08, participants will have the opportunity to understand and analyze trajectories of thought and problems of current democratic societies. The invitation is open to students from all over the country, and there is a competitive fund so that those who come from regions can pay for their transfer and/or accommodation.

The activity, completely free, will be carried out in person at the headquarters of the Center for Public Studies, located at Monseñor Sótero Sanz 162, Providencia. You can find the requirements to register here and applications will be open until next Monday, January 08. You can review more details of the event through the CEP social networks (Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram y LinkedIn).
