The Coquimbo Region is preparing to receive one of the most transcendental cultural events in its history, with the presentation of the masterpiece "Resurrection" - Second Symphony by Gustav Mahler. For the first time, this monumental choral symphony will resonate at the La Serena Monumental Coliseum, on January 20 and 21, 2024, at 21:00 p.m.

The work, recognized as one of the great choral symphonies in history, addresses a universal theme: What is beyond life? Gustav Mahler, Austro-Bohemian composer, leaves an impressive legacy that is presented for the first time in the Coquimbo Region.

The magnitude of this cultural event is reflected in the participation of more than 200 artists on stage, including musicians from all over Chile, the outstanding lyrical soloists Elena Jaime and Gloria Rojas, and the artistic direction of Manuel Figueroa-Bolvarán, academic of the Department. of ULS Music. Local choirs, such as the Coro Allegro, Coro San Francisco, Ensamble Vocal Encanto del Elqui, and Ensamble Vocal Cantus Florido, along with choristers from the region, contribute their talent to this unique performance.

The concert, lasting 1:30 hours, represents a historical-cultural milestone for the region. The La Serena community will witness a work of unprecedented quality and magnitude, thanks to the collaboration of the Chile Violines Foundation and the La Serena Bach Society. In the words of Carolina Ramírez, General Coordinator of the event and president of Chile Violines, “concretizing initiatives such as Mahler's monumental Second Symphony in the city of La Serena represents an extremely relevant milestone, not only because of the artistic challenge that it represents, but also because through the collaborative work of different cultural agents it is possible to strengthen the artistic programming, decentralize and make visible the great musical potential that this city has."

About the work, the artistic director Manuel Figueroa-Bolvarán comments that "Gustav Mahler's Second Symphony represents, in a few words, everything good that society should be exposed to today. The work faithfully represents the Mahlerian conception that a "Symphony must contain all of life. That is the "Resurrection" Symphony, a path through all the spaces, reflections, experiences and questions that are part of the life of the human being." Furthermore, the Chilean director invites "anyone who wants to join the regional cause for quality Theater and bet on La Serena being a UNESCO cultural and creative city to be present at the event."

The event has the valuable financial support of the Regional Government of Coquimbo, through its regional development funds - Private Traditional Culture 2023.
