Final year students, graduates and graduates participate massively in the ULS 2014 Job Fair

New companies and institutions joined the event this year, which brought together more than 2 attendees.

Final year students, graduates and graduates from all majors at the University of La Serena, had the opportunity to participate in the ULS Labor Fair, an activity organized by the Graduate Monitoring Office of the university, which this year included the presence of more than 30 companies and institutions from the most varied fields.

Employment opportunities, professional practice and/or thesis development are the options to which attendees at this event could opt, which seeks to link graduates, graduates and students of the university with various representatives of the labor market, becoming a platform powerful for strengthening the existing link between the University and the public and private sectors.

On the occasion, the vice-rector for Economic and Administrative Affairs, Dr. Marcela Aguirre, representing the Rector, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés, pointed out that the ULS Labor Fair is a clear example of the relationship that the state campus maintains with the entire regional community. and with the productive sector, "and the effort that is made so that future professionals can respond to the requirements of the Coquimbo Region and the country."

For his part, the person in charge of the ULS Graduate Monitoring Office, Luis Carrasco, stated that “this fair has the objective of bringing the labor market closer to students who are already about to graduate and to approximate vacant places available in the companies to our graduates. This year we added 10 more companies than in the previous version.” 

fair lab 2The companies and institutions that were part of the ULS 2014 Labor Fair are: Ecomac Empresas, TPC Terminal Puerto Coquimbo, Atacama Frutícola y Exportadora, Enjoy, Agrosúper, Teck Carmen de Andacollo, Minera San Gerónimo, Minera Los Pelambres, Adecco, Banco de Chile , Banco Santander, Coca-Cola Andina, Innovacien, Aguas del Valle, Coquimbo Regional Clinic, Elqui Clinic, Sodexo, Gabriela Mistral Corporation, Manpower, Integra Foundation, Foundation for Overcoming Poverty, Deloitte Auditors and Consultants, Gabriel González Municipal Corporation Videla, Tronwell, Fundación María Educa, Aramark, CIMPAC Ltda., Intosim Ltda. and Constructora Beltec Ltda. In addition to them, Sence and the Illustrious Municipality of La Serena also joined as sponsors.

The event took place at the Ignacio Domeyko Campus of the ULS and, as in its previous version, attendees were able to submit their resumes, schedule interviews and/or possible job opportunities, reports or professional practices. For their part, exhibitors had a showcase to promote their positioning in the segment of recent graduates, emphasizing the aspects they wish to reinforce in their different areas of action.

Mauricio Ortiz, assistant manager of People at Terminal Puerto de Coquimbo TPC SA, one of the exhibitors, indicated that “as a terminal we want to maintain a link with the region and in this case with the university that has the regional seal such as the University of La Serena, in addition, within our team we already have people who graduated from this institution, with whom we have had very good results. Therefore, with our presence here, we are attracting potential applicants for the positions we have and we hope they are people from the region.”

Both this and the different actions of the Graduate Monitoring Office are part of the Alma Mater ULS project (CRUCH-MINEDUC Ues Strengthening Fund). 

fair lab 3“The Labor Fair consolidates the work of an entire year, regarding a series of activities aimed at placing our professionals in the labor market, among them we have the Employability Network, where about 100 companies are directly related to the institution, through from different instances and where they can present their offers through our portal and thus carry out the placement of our professionals; Coaching for employability is also carried out, which is a skills program for our students with a graduation profile; and we also carry out actions that have to do with the loyalty of our graduates with their Alma Mater, such as the ULS Graduate Cup,” indicated the director of Institutional and Planning Studies, Mg. César Espíndola.

Employability Seminar

It is important to highlight that the Employability Seminar was held again, an event that seeks to achieve greater rapprochement between some of the companies and institutions with the attendees, providing valuable details about their recruitment processes, the values ​​and skills they seek in their staff, management and new projects, etc.

On this occasion, the Seminar featured presentations from Compañía Minera Teck, with the person in charge of Talent Management, Sebastián Galleguillos; Deloitte, with the manager of the Copiapó Branch, Milton Pérez; and Ecomac Empresas, with its assistant manager of People Management, David Cortés.
