The meeting will be led by the Wind and Percussion Ensemble of the Universidad de La Serena Symphony Orchestra, which will offer a captivating repertoire.

After countless activities during the month of May, two new presentations are added to the hectic programming of the Universidad de La Serena Symphony Orchestra. This is the beginning of the series of concerts in chamber format featuring the different ensembles of the professional regional ensemble, which in this opening will feature the outstanding participation of the Brass and Percussion Quintet.

concert camera1The musicians Sergio Fuentes and Cristian Monreal (trumpets), Gerson Pierotti (horn), Daniel Carmona (trombone), Francisco Cárceles (tuba) and Pablo Pallero (percussion) will be in charge of visiting the communes of Vicuña and La Serena to perform an important selection of works, among which stand out: 'Brass Quintet N°1', OP. 73 (1961) by the great British composer Malcolm Arnold, considered one of the most important masters of the second half of the 1905th century. 'Blues for Gilbert' for vibraphone by Mark Glenworth and 'Dialogue pour deux trompettes' by Eugène Bozza will also be part of the musical event. Bozza (XNUMX) is known for his great work as a composer, performing works for almost all wind and string instruments during his academic life. His chamber music for winds shows great familiarity with the capabilities of each instrument, making him particularly known for this type of piece.

This repertoire also includes the work of the American Verne Reynolds, titled 'Horn Vibes – three duos for horn and vibraphone'. This composer left a great musical legacy (2011 RIP), being recognized for his technical skill and numerous publications - including technically difficult studies - as well as his inspiring teaching that has promoted technical development and influenced professional horn playing such as few have done it. Finally, the concerts will culminate with the piece 'Quintet N°3', Op. 7 in d flat major by the Russian master Victor Ewald.

The first Chamber Music Concert of the 2019 season will begin in the commune of Vicuña, in the heart of the Elqui Valley, with the presentation of territorial extension at the Inmaculada Concepción Church (Gabriela Mistral #337), next Thursday, March 30 May at 20:00 p.m.

concert camera3Its communal authority, Mayor Rafael Vera Castillo, referred to this opening and the public-private alliance that has materialized, once again, through this cycle of concerts in the territory: “over time it has been generated a joint working relationship between the University of La Serena Symphony Orchestra and the Municipality of Vicuña. Without a doubt, cultural spaces must be earned and for that we must show high-level shows, to motivate and bring culture closer to our neighbors. I believe that this objective has been achieved, every day the activities are more massive and the neighbors enjoy them, and an important actor in that has been the Regional Orchestra," said the mayor, also extending his thanks to the symphonic ensemble for contribute to the culture of Vicuña and formation of new audiences.

Subsequently, it is the turn of the community of La Serena and its surroundings, who will be able to enjoy this concert on Friday, May 31, at 20:00 p.m., in the Aula Magna of the Ignacio Domyko Campus of the University of La Serena (Benavente #980). Both concerts are free and without invitation withdrawal.

This new season is carried out thanks to the financing of the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage, which since 2016 has been attached to the National Budget Glosa; in addition to the important institutional support provided by the University of La Serena, through the Directorate of Linkage with the Environment and Extension (DIVEULS); the Municipality of La Serena, through its Department of Culture; and the Municipality of Vicuña, together with its Department of Events and Communications.
