During the activity that started the 5th version of the film festival, which is being held for the first time at the ULS, a collaboration agreement was signed between the house of studies and FECILS.

With the presence of various authorities, prominent national actors and a large audience, a new version of the La Serena International Film Festival began, an activity that this year celebrated its 5th version in the Aula Magna of the University of La Serena, study house that will receive the central activities of this event.

Along with the opening ceremony, where the various national and regional films and documentaries in competition were presented, in addition to the films on display, the film "Ema" by director Pablo Larraín was screened.

During the activity, the presence of the Rector of the University of La Serena, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés, the Undersecretary of Cultures and the Arts, Juan Carlos Silva, the Director of FECILS, Eduardo Pizarro, the Seremi of Arts, Cultures and Heritage, Francisco Varas and the president of the Association of Municipalities of the region and mayor of Vicuña, Rafael Vera, together with the actors and actresses Claudio Arredondo, Paulina García, Rodrigo Walker, Juanita Ringeling, Barbara Ruiz-Tagle, Claudio Castelló, Ignacia Uribe, Gabriela Medina and Alvaro Morales.

“It is important to intervene in culture from every point of view, it is the only way to raise education in Chile. I believe that all social actors, including universities, must be involved in a common project linked to art. So it is a very positive initiative and I congratulate the University for joining this important festival, indicated the actor Álvaro Morales regarding the realization of this event at the ULS.

Collaborative work for culture

During the opening ceremony, the University of La Serena and the organizing committee of FECILS signed an agreement, signed by the Rector of the house of studies and the director of the festival respectively, which seeks to formalize a collaborative effort between the institution and the event. culture, for 5 years.

Faced with this commitment from the University of La Serena, Dr. Nibaldo Avilés stated that "we are proud to be able to support this activity, which has a projection on such an important topic as cinema and which is in line with the development of our university and its commitment to link with the environment”.

For his part, the director of FECILS, Eduardo Pizarro, expressed: "we are very happy that the University of La Serena is part of this program, we believe that it is necessary to be able to count on the support of the house of studies, since it gives us the support of linking the academic with the cultural and this will allow FECILS to be given an even greater projection in its next versions”.

This work agreement, together with the realization of FECILS, seeks to generate various activities, such as forums, film screenings, courses and workshops, focused on the dissemination of culture in the community.
