Concerts, Master Class and Orchestral Instruction were part of the programming; those that were carried out simultaneously in Coquimbo and La Serena.

With a wide range of educational activities, the University of La Serena Symphony Orchestra visited different venues to imbue different educational communities with music and knowledge and, on the other hand, offer a significant presentation to women deprived of liberty at the Penitentiary Complex of The Serena.

orq2The program developed during the month of October included master classes and orchestral instruction. The first intervention was carried out in the MECESUP Hall of the ULS Music Department before a large number of participants from different schools in Coquimbo and La Serena. The percussion master class was performed by the teacher and musician of the regional cast, Pablo Pallero King, who shared different techniques for the correct execution of the instruments. A learning instance that was highly valued by the students and their music teachers, since it allowed them to broaden their knowledge and exchange experiences with other students in the territory.

A similar day was experienced by the students of the Claudio Arrau College of the Arts in Coquimbo, who were part of the orchestral instruction carried out by the first trumpet of the symphonic ensemble, Sergio Fuentes, who also shared techniques and tips for a better interpretation, as well as, breathing exercises. For Javier Inostroza, an 8th grade student who studies trumpet, he indicated that this is not the first time that he participates in these interventions with the orchestra, “that's why when they come, I always take advantage of participating. I think it is very good that these classes are given because one can learn more about the instrument, resolve doubts, learn musical techniques and concepts that I did not know,” he said.

orq3The educational activities also included concerts, which were performed by the Wood Quintet of the Universidad de La Serena Regional Symphony Orchestra, led by Milén Godoy (traverse flute), Andrés Pallero (clarinet), Cristian Astorga (oboe), Gerson Pierotti (French horn), Francisco Ramos and Alevi Peña (bassoon); the latter, responsible for conducting the presentations. The interpreters appeared in two educational establishments: the Gabriel González Videla High School and the Balmaceda School; both belonging to the Gabriel González Videla Corporation.

Finally, the musicians visited the La Serena Penitentiary Complex, where they performed an applauded and valued concert for more than 50 women deprived of liberty, who enjoyed the classical European repertoire and expressed their joy for this opportunity to enjoy learned music.

It should be noted that these activities and interventions are part of the 2019 Season of the regional orchestra, as well as its educational, musical and territorial work, which is financed by the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage, which since the year 2016 is attached to the Gloss of the National Budget, in addition to the important support provided by the University of La Serena and the Directorate of Links with the Environment and Extension (DIVEULS); the Municipality of La Serena and its Department of Culture; and the Municipality of Coquimbo in conjunction with its Department of Culture.
