The next 2014 Season Concert, in addition to a lively and attractive program with great classical works, will offer the public the presentation of three talented regional soloists.

This Friday, July 18, the Municipal Theater of La Serena will be filled again with the sounds of the University of La Serena Symphony Orchestra, which on this occasion will be led by the prominent national director Pablo Carrasco.

“This concert has Rossini's Barber of Seville Overture, a very playful work of opera buffa and we will end with Beethoven's Seventh, which is a very rhythmic, fast and happy symphony, so it will be a very striking and lively concert, to which is added the presence of young talents who will perform each work as soloists,” says Carrasco.

The three “Young Talents” are Giovanni Cortés, Sebastián Rodríguez and Francisco Pallero, winners of the contest, organized by the OSULS and aimed at students specializing in different orchestral disciplines. The idea of this contest is to highlight regional musical talents, the recognition, dedication and sacrifices that this implies; added to the improvement and effort of their tutors and families.

The history of each of them is marked from the beginning by music, as is the case of the violinist Giovanni Cortés, son, nephew and grandson of prominent regional musicians, who participates and wins for the second time. “It feels great to have a new opportunity to show people and my family the progress I have made with the violin this year, with a concert with the Symphony Orchestra of the University of La Serena, at this age, which is not It is usual in the life of a musician,” said the performer, who dreams of a future dedicated to music and beginning formal studies.

For his part, Francisco Pallero, trombone player, participates for the first time in the contest. “I started about eleven years ago, encouraged by my brother and one of his friends, who recognized my conditions. Having won this contest is an important achievement,” he expressed. Today, after a lot of work and passion for music, he indicated that he has a good feeling because participating as a soloist presents a high demand and requires time to achieve his goals and continue on this path.

Meanwhile, Sebastián Rodríguez, from 4th grade, pointed out that he wants to continue playing cello throughout his life, "that's why I see this contest as an experience and an opportunity to continue in this."

In addition to the aforementioned works, the program includes the performance of each of the soloists: on violin, Giovanni Cortés will perform the First Movement of the Concerto for Violin and Orchestra K.218 in D Major by WA Mozart; Sebastián Rodríguez will offer the work Kol Nidrei op.47, by Max Bruch on cello, and Francisco Pallero will offer the work Concert Piece op.88 by Alexandre Guilmant on trombone.

All the winners are students of the Jorge Peña Hen Experimental School of Music and receive as a prize participation, together with the regional Symphony Orchestra, in the 2014 Season Concert that will be held this Friday, July 18 at 20:00 p.m. in the Municipal Theater of La Serena.

Director Pablo Carrasco, who has extensive experience leading youth groups and professional orchestras in Chile and abroad, said that “obviously all these young people have a long way to go, but without a doubt they will be very good elements in the future.” "This competition, organized by OSULS, is a fantastic opportunity for young musicians from the Coquimbo Region."

Tickets for this concert cost $3.000 for the general public and $2.000 for students and seniors.
