This week a new scientific outreach program began to be broadcast on ULS University Radio in the Coquimbo Region, coordinated and hosted by Dr. Marcela Gatica Andrades, coordinator of the Scientific Communication Nucleus of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of La Serena.

This program, which is called “ULS, from the Earth to the Universe”, seeks to be a space in which scientific knowledge can be delivered to the community in a pleasant format and in a language that is suitable for audiences far from the world of science. investigation.

The program is broadcast every Tuesday and Thursday at 8 AM on University Radio 94.5 FM, and includes conversations with researchers from various areas, especially from the ULS Faculty of Sciences. The first programs dealt with topics as diverse as Dark Matter and the increase in HIV-AIDS cases that Chile has had recently.

Dear ULS Community:

Along with greeting, I would like to inform you of what was agreed by the Academic Council in its Extraordinary Session No. 12, held yesterday, Monday, December 16, in relation to the end of the Second Academic Semester 2019.

As is known, teaching activities have not been carried out due to the student strike, which has been associated with the national mobilization of the last two months.

However, based on the interest that the FEULS has expressed in implementing a termination mechanism that allows the current semester to be completed in an adequate and sufficient manner, which is also based on the recommendations of the CONFECH, added to the interest of the Teaching Committee , made up of the School Directors and/or Career Coordinators, and the Academic Council to resolve this situation that negatively impacts not only the students but the Institution itself, the form of termination of the second was approved after extensive discussion. semester 2019, which was announced by the FEULS to the respective student bases, who today, Tuesday the 17th, confirmed their approval of the following provisions:

1. In the month of December 2019, academics will prepare materials/readings/documents on the Moodle/PTDI platform, in addition to the work that has been carried out during mobilization time. This period will not be considered as teaching, since it is an exclusive job for teachers.

To ensure that said material is reviewed by students, it will remain on the platform until the end of the Second Semester 2019. It is suggested, for example: the resolution of exercises, guides, projects, preparation of reports, etc. This can be evaluated when in-person work with students is assumed.

2. Regarding the month of January, the 3 weeks will be considered to constitute work non-face-to-face/autonomous student, from January 06 to 24, 2020. This means that There will be no evaluations in the month of January, until the second week of March 2020.

3. A minimum of 2 partial evaluations per subject will be required.

4. No evaluations will be carried out the first week of MarchThat is, it will only be allowed to apply evaluations from the second week onwards. In the case of subjects that, having delivered content in the first weeks of classes of the second semester of 2019 and where only the evaluation remained, these can be carried out in the second week of March.

5. In this special period and form of completion of the second semester of 2019, failures in subjects will not be considered a cause for the elimination of students according to the Study Regime Regulations.

6. Practices and degree exams may be carried out based on these agreements in force from tomorrow, Wednesday, December 18, 2019.

7. Non-attendance in the second semester of 2019 will not be decisive for taking the exam, however, The maximum presence is expected in the months of March and April 2020. In the case of laboratories, practical workshops, etc., that have considered high face-to-face requirements, The criteria established in the Careers or Schools themselves will be maintained.

8.Recommendations:

a) Students and academics are requested to have greater understanding regarding the agreements reached in the Academic Council on December 16, 2019, to achieve the end of the second semester 2019.

b) School Directors and Career Coordinators are requested to attend to the special needs of students who are not able to access the Internet.

c) It is expected that the student body requests the smallest number of protected schedules, with the purpose of complying with the calendar defined for this special situation.

In order to faithfully comply with these provisions, the entire University Community is requested especially to the Deanships and Directorates of Departments, give wide dissemination to these agreements with which teaching activities are resumed at the University of La Serena according to the detail set forth above. Likewise, it is required to carry out a monitoring work so that these measures are fulfilled as defined.

The document corresponds to the second edition of the collection of teaching notebooks for the initial training of teachers launched by the Integrated Management Unit of Pedagogies (UGIP).

One of the main purposes established by the Institutional Improvement Plan for Pedagogies (PMI FIP ULS1501) is to strengthen and improve the educational quality of teachers in training. This has been developed through different actions carried out by the UGIP, among which is the creation of didactic notebooks.

This second edition was announced at the Annual Conference of Practice Supervisors and Coordinators, with the objective of providing various guidelines to academics who are in charge of accompanying and supervising these processes in their various pedagogy careers.

“For some time now the UGIP has collected certain requirements regarding the practical area that relate to how we position and articulate the line in the renewed plan of pedagogy careers. Therefore, the idea of ​​these meetings is that we can jointly define aspects related to the work of internships and, especially, stop to reflect on the real needs we have in terms of practical training," said the academic coordinator of the UGIP. , Dr. Sandra Álvarez.

On the occasion, the main guidelines addressed by the document were outlined, which range from initial practice (1st and 5th semester), intermediate practice (6th and 9th semester) and up to professional practice (10th semester), the basis considered for all pedagogy career of the house of studies.

“As a University we are advancing an important milestone in all our pedagogy careers, which is the renewal of the curriculum and its training plan. learns 2In order to generate permanent support for the students, various support actions have been designed, ranging from the individual line with 2 workshops called: “Emotional Containment” and “Accompaniment in Crisis Scenarios”, and in the line group with 6 workshops ranging from orientation to exploring communication dynamics to the delivery and development of support and containment tools, among others.

Barbara Mejias, Psychoeducational Manager APRENDE ULS, explained the reason for offering these workshops. “Our program aims to provide accompaniment and support to our students and in this line as a program we could not remain oblivious to the reality we are experiencing. For this reason, I invite all students who feel affected, afflicted and need to be heard or want to learn about the topics we are offering, request workshops or individual attention and come to our offices, we will be waiting for you with open arms."

To date, there are 4 majors that have requested workshops within the institution: Pedagogy in English, with the “University Coexistence” workshop, whose objective was to collect the main critical nodes to improve and maintain in the dynamics of the major in relation to university coexistence; and Kinesiology, with the workshop “Psychological and Social States in Times of Crisis”, focused on the delivery of key technical concepts for understanding the crisis as a social phenomenon.
