The positive results for ULS university sports continue.

The sports branches continue to significantly represent the University of La Serena in the Higher Education Sports League. This time it was the Basketball branches, both women and men, and the Volleyball branch, with its men's representative, who achieved their classification to the Interregional of each discipline.sports2

ULS basketball, in the absence of a date to play, has already qualified for the Interregional tournament that will take place in the city of La Serena during the month of August, in which branches from the regions of O'Higgins and Ñuble who will fight for a place for the LDES national tournament that will be held in Punta Arenas.

This weekend's results continued to demonstrate the great work of the men's branch, as they defeated their counterpart from the UCN by 63 to 32. The women's branch was free.

Volleyball did not want to be left behind, managing to beat INACAP in both women and men. The latter achieved their classification undefeated to the interregional phase, defeating their rival by a score of 3 to 0. The ladies achieved their first victory with the same score as the men, closing their participation in the regional phase.

sports3Meanwhile, men's soccer continues its march toward the interregional tournament in a solid manner, achieving a 3-1 victory over UCN, thus continuing its undefeated streak in its three participations. It should be noted that the women's branch has already been classified since the previous date to the next phase of the league.

Finally, on Friday, July 5 at 17:30 p.m., the table tennis branch begins its participation at INACAP facilities. In this discipline, the University of La Serena will appear with both its men's and women's teams.

Continuing with the activities related to the solar eclipse, on Friday, July 5, the University of La Serena will open the doors of the Aula Magna (Benavente 980) to the entire public to enjoy the presentation of the Renacer Choral Ensemble. Starting at 20:00 p.m. A musical and visual show will take place to “live the solar eclipse with all the senses.”

The Renacer Choral Ensemble will be accompanied in the presentation by pianist Andrés Collao, as well as a String Quartet made up of: Stefania Esquivel (violin), Viviana Rodríguez (violin), Ana Silva (viola) and Tatiana Espinoza (cello).

In the visual projection (Mapping), visual artist Daniela Cabrera will include the magic of astral colors. The stories will be given by Carmen Meleán and Raúl Maturana.

The Renacer Choral Ensemble was born in October 2017 under the choral direction of Adolfo Díaz Contreras. Among its members, this group has students and graduates of the University, having in common the love of choral music.

The activity is free entry and open to the public.

During the activity in which the ULS gave glasses to boys and girls, an astronomer from the institution shared scientific knowledge with everyone present.

papayitos glasses2With a playful and fun activity, the boys and girls of the “Los Papayitos” Garden, dependent on the DGAE and intended for the sons and daughters of students, received their certified glasses to safely observe the solar eclipse on July 2.

During the activity, the educators together with students in practice of the Early Childhood Education Pedagogy career performed an entertaining and educational play about the astronomical event.

In addition, the astronomer of the house of studies, Rodolfo Angeloni, was in charge of talking to the children, showing didactically with a sun projector how the eclipse will occur and the care they should take when observing it. After the presentation, the presentation was made to all the boys and girls, who joyfully received their glasses given by the ULS.

In this way, the University of La Serena continues to bring science closer to the entire university and regional community.

In a difficult match the ladies won against their counterpart from INACAP. In a balanced match, they managed to maintain the pace of the game, achieving an important victory by a score of 67 to 65. For their part, the men had no difficulty in defeating the INACAP team by a score of 66 to 31, translating what was planned on the field. in the week.

In volleyball our branches faced UCN in both women and men. The ULS women's branch has not been able to take off, despite showing a good game, they were defeated by the UCN by 3 sets to 1.

Meanwhile, the men continue with the good streak of the previous date. Now they prevailed over a brave UCN team by a score of 3 sets to 2. The ULS knew how to prevail against an organized rival team, who for several years had been winners of this match.

The group will hold free presentations for the entire public.

This weekend the Mining Circus of the University of La Serena will carry out various activities to celebrate National Heritage Day, confirming its commitment to entertain adults and children in their presentations.

circus2The performances are scheduled for this Saturday, May 25 (1st performance: 17:00 p.m. and 2nd performance: 20:00 p.m.) and Sunday, the 26th of this month (only performance: 18:00 p.m.).

All performances are free and will take place at the Mining Circus Workshop, located on the Isabel Bongard Campus (Benavente esq. Amunátegui).

Presentation at the Archaeological Museum of La Serena

Continuing with its presentations, on Sunday the 26th the Circus will perform at the Archaeological Museum of La Serena, with a show for the entire public.

Starting at 11 in the morning, he will hold an initiation juggling workshop for boys and girls, which consists of a basic juggling workshop with balls, hula-hooping and swing with flags, which will allow participants to play, learn and learn basic elements of dance with juggling. 

To finish, the artistic group will perform a “Circus Show Opening”, which consists of a brief intervention with club juggling, hula hoops, flags and clowns.

This year the Mining Circus celebrates 68 years of university tradition in the Coquimbo Region, sharing circus culture with the entire public.

The educational community thanked the visit of the University of La Serena through its group.

Great expectations were generated by the presentation of the group of Experimental Theater of the University of La Serena in the educational establishment located in Caleta San Pedro.

To close the activity, the ULS Experimental Theater staged his work “The Devil's Bottle Farce”, which generated great interaction with the students present.

“I think it is a fairly innovative project that brings children closer to new ways of seeing literature and shows that what can be shown or told about a certain era should not be boring,” said Rayen, an 8th grade student.

For her part, the director of the establishment, Eduviges Castillo, thanked the University “for having chosen us as a school and being able to bring a different perspective to our students, and understanding that going to the University is not only about studying but also about developing other talents, skills and capabilities".
