The activity sought to provide information about the objectives, processes and inclusive education activities of the ULS 1799 project.

With the purpose of providing information on the objectives, processes and activities of inclusive education developed by the ULS 1799 project, the team of this institutional entity met with academics from the Music Department of the university.

inclusion music2In addition to providing details of the international and national legal context on inclusive education for people with disabilities, the ULS Inclusion Project team shared information about the objective and the actions promoted in relation to teaching, related to curricular adjustments, the development workshops on learning techniques and social skills with the target students, training for teachers in pedagogical strategies for diversity, among others.

Likewise, in terms of research, the participation of the project manager and academic from the Department of Education, Dr. Georgina Gracia Escala, in the CUECH Research Network (Diversity, Inclusion and Interculturality Roundtable), and the guidance and support for undergraduate and graduate research work on the subject.

In relation to the connection with the environment, teachers from the regular education system and students with a graduation profile were informed about the training; giving motivational talks to schoolchildren with disabilities, their parents and teachers; and participation in inclusive higher education networks (regional, national and international. Management issues were also discussed, where the project keeps institutional authorities informed of public policies on disability, and students participate and give their opinions on the design and implementation of project activities.

With the development of this activity, it was possible to publicize the inclusive education processes carried out to date by the ULS 1799 project team and concerns of teachers about the connection to the project of students with disabilities, and pedagogical strategies, were resolved. to facilitate the inclusion of students with different types of disabilities.

The celebration consisted of various typical activities, as well as musical performances by artistic groups from the university.

With a high participation of the university community, the University of La Serena, through the Human Resources Department, held the traditional celebration of National Holidays.

parties2First thing in the morning it was the turn of typical games, such as hopscotch or spinning top, so that the members of the community could enjoy various cultural expressions; and later, the traditional National Holidays toast was held, an activity that included the participation of authorities, directors, academic and non-academic officials, students and representatives of collaborating institutions.

During the activity and after the singing of the national anthem, the Director of Human Resources, Miguel Sánchez, gave a greeting to the university community, where he referred to the importance of commemorating these dates. “This is a very important day, since it has allowed us to enjoy different artistic expressions and, at the same time, it allows us to remember that, as an institution, we are part of the history of the country and it has allowed us to come together to participate as a university community” , he indicated.

The celebration of the 2019 National Holidays at the ULS included the participation of the Tuna Femenina Azhares, the presentation of the Folkloric Projection Ensemble of the study house, and ended with a cueca performance by the cueca workshop aimed at officials.

parties3Along with the artistic presentations, the Human Resources Department presented the awards to the officials who were winners of the traditional popular games. This is how Victoria Viera and Miguel Trejo (beat the bull), Sandra Tarifeño and Mauro Cuello (spinning top), Rosa Uribe and Guillermo Blanco (emboque), Claudia Galleguillos and Francisco Espejo (emboque), and Claudia Plaza and Mauro Cuello were awarded. In addition, the 3 units with the greatest participation in these activities were awarded, with the officials from the Dentistry, Student Welfare and the Strategic Development and Quality Department being awarded.

Finally, recognition was given to officials Luis Carrasco and María José Araya for their participation as teachers of the cueca workshop aimed at officials.

The commemoration activity concluded with the delivery of refreshments to all those present.

From the central organization of the process, multiple corporate efforts were designed and deployed to reach all university levels with the message and also, to external informants, and we are deeply grateful for the response that, clearly, already shows a community that is alive and involved with its institutional development," commented the director of Strategic Communication, Mg. Carola Espinoza, responsible for the communication strategy of the ULS Self-Assessment.
 
The survey closes today, Friday the 13th at 23:59 p.m. and even greater participation is expected, especially from the segment of ULS graduates - from the last five years - who have the goal of reaching at least 15% of responses.

A tour of the main facilities of the School of Journalism and the Andrés Bello Campus of the University of La Serena was carried out by nearly 60 students from the Ignacio de Loyola School of Illapel after their interest in this and other careers at the house of studies.

The Digital Content Room, the Radio and Television studios, and the Digital Editing Laboratory were the centers visited by the students, who were pleasantly surprised with the infrastructure that the School has.

Cristian Muñoz Catalán valued the visit and invited other schools. “For us this is important because there is an interaction with the students, where they are shown the School's facilities. And this undoubtedly helps us position ourselves early in future cohorts who may choose the School of Journalism and the University of La Serena as their home of study,” he expressed.

The experience for the group of schoolchildren provoked a high interest and motivation for communications. “This tour was very different from what we have seen before because we have only visited scientific fields, so we had never had the experience of being able to do things in a more didactic way like here in Journalism,” commented Josefa Morales, a 3rd year student at the school. .

Likewise, for Maura Nilo, a student in the same course, her interest in studying this degree increased: “now that we came to see the headquarters, I liked the infrastructure they have in areas such as computing, radio, the informative talks on the degree and, also, “It is a very spacious place,” he said.

For her teacher and graduate of the University of La Serena, Graciela Castillo, these instances are important because they bring students closer to university life, highlighting that “I heard them say, after the exercise that was given to them, that they would like to study Journalism, They were very excited, especially when they understand that the career is not only television, but also has other areas where they can perform.”

The experience allowed the students to know, through experiences, the different aspects that the Journalism career covers and thus get closer to the different technological inputs that allow the comprehensive development between the theoretical and practical aspects of the area.

To recycle plastic, aluminum cans, paper, cardboard and glass, the Student Center of the Environmental Civil Engineering career and the Association of Officials of the University of La Serena (AFULS), with the support of the Faculty of Engineering and Rotarac La Serena Oriente, inaugurated a Clean Point for the institution, in the context of Environmental Awareness Week.

clean point3The activity was attended by university authorities, academics, officials and students from different careers, who valued the initiative and called for creating more spaces like the recently inaugurated one.

The Vice Rector of Economic and Administrative Affairs of the ULS, Dr. Armando Mansilla, was emphatic in saying that “recycling is making ourselves aware that we must worry, but above all, take care of leaving a healthy world for the future of our next generations, and this "It is achieved through joint work, in which we join forces and work to care for our land."

This student project was carried out with the collaboration of AFULS, which was responsible for financing the initiative through funds granted by the institution for these purposes.

The president of the Environmental Civil Engineering Student Center, Enrique González, stated that “this idea was based on the fact that Chile is responsible for sustainability issues, and the University is not exempt from this; However, with small actions, such as the reforestation plan promoted by the institution, we are taking steps, to which is added this clean point, which helps us achieve this sustainable development."

The president of the Association of Officials of the University of La Serena, Karina Núñez, pointed out that “today we can finally see something tangible and concrete, we contribute to expanding the Punto Limpio. Now a container is available and we support the management so that a company can collect printer toners and we have already started training with the assistants.”

Male and female students with an interest in pedagogies were those who participated in this activity.

Male and female students from 7 educational establishments of the PACE UCN Program in the Coquimb Region, and who are interested in studying pedagogy, participated in the talk: “What teachers are silent about: myths and truths”, given by teachers who are part of the PACE and APRENDE Program teams of the University of La Serena.

talk pace2The activity is inserted in the work guidelines of the Program for Accompaniment and Access to Higher Education, PACE, so the teams from the programs of the Universidad Católica del Norte and ULS generated the link, with the aim that the students could see the facilities of the higher education institution and conclude the so-called: "Third Day for the strengthening of pedagogical skills."

The talk took place in the Television Studio of the School of Journalism and was given by the PACE ULS Communications area. At the event, the teachers who are part of the programs shared their experiences working as teachers.

The professionals who participated in the talk were: Marcela Altamirano, coordinator of APRENDE ULS Monitoring; Felipe Correa, Mathematics mentor ARENDE ULS; Tamara Cortés, Language and Communication mentor; Jovanna González, PEM PACE academic manager and Rodrigo Vega, AES PACE academic manager.

Celia Rojas, facilitator of the PEM UCN Component, thanked “the exhibitors for the care with which they prepared their presentations for the students, it is very pleasing to me that the children have had this experience, we appreciate their collaboration and linking us as Higher Education Institutions , since our purpose as a PACE Program is the students.”

I see my colleagues who presented with great passion and congratulated the PACE team at the University of La Serena and that they continue in this duo with UCN,” she stated.

Vicente Hidalgo, a student at the State of Israel Institute of Administration and Commerce in Coquimbo, said: “It opened my eyes to the world of teaching, it seemed like a very good intervention to me. In addition to that, it was very emotional to be able to hear one of the teachers who accompanies one of the groups say that she is already leaving it and that she fulfilled her goal as a teacher and as a person, it was incredible.”

While Jocelyn Milla, a student at the Pichasca School in Río Hurtado, stated that in the activity “they taught many things that we did not know about pedagogy and this motivates us to study some pedagogy, listening to teachers of different ages showing the work they do. inside and outside of schools.
