A successful musical journey is what the La Serena University Symphony Orchestra promises for mid-July, taking a tour of works from romanticism to impressionism.

The music continues to bring joy and fill the Municipal Theater of La Serena. On this occasion, a new country on the European continent will be honored by the La Serena University Symphony Orchestra, along with the masterful performance of three famous national musicians, the guest conductor José Luis Domínguez, the harp soloist Patricia Reyes and the violin soloist Leonardo Godoy, in a colossal program of 'The Symphony of Cultures'.

All these attributes will be combined in the V Concert of the Season, an unmissable event that seeks to exalt the colors of France with five select pieces for orchestra and instrument; starting the presentation with 'Variations on a French Theme' composed by the violist and guest conductor for this new programming, José Luis Domínguez; and then continue with an outstanding figure of European music from the late XNUMXth century and early XNUMXth century, Claude Debussy, and his work called 'Sacred and Profane Dances for Harp and String Orchestra'. The tour also includes two works by the French composer recognized as the master of orchestration, Maurice Ravel, with 'Introduction and Allegro - Tzigane' and 'Le tombeau de couperin'; to end with the 'Introduction and capricious rondo' by the director, organist and pianist Camille Saint Saëns.

It is really beautiful, very varied, with works that are very different from each other, and I am sure that the public will appreciate it a lot," explained Maestro Domínguez, who has positioned himself as one of the most audacious Chilean directors, currently being Music Director of the New Jersey Symphony Academy. Next Friday, July 13, José Luis will travel from the United States to reconnect with the city where he was born and trained as a musician, to share the stage with the professional group from the Coquimbo Region: “it is always pleasant and exciting to come to the homeland and working with my city's orchestra is a priority, so I am very happy about it."

Domínguez will not only have the opportunity to conduct five fascinating French works, but one of them is his own, being the overture to this indelible musical journey: “the composition is due to a special request from the orchestra, it is a work short and very simple but it is written especially for them, so it has not been touched on anywhere else. It is a gift dedicated to them and I see it as a kind of preamble to something bigger that I would like to write to the orchestra and my city in the medium-future term,” emphasized the Serenense director and composer.

Regarding the repertoire that the soloists will star in, the concertmaster of the ensemble belonging to the Network of Regional Professional Orchestras of the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage, Leonardo Godoy, commented that the pieces that will be exhibited represent virtuoso works from the great violin repertoire. , starting with the work 'Tzigane' where it will evoke “the gypsy-inspired sound that Ravel wanted to impregnate, since it begins with a violin solo and then integrates with the orchestra, achieving passages of great energy and different colors.” Subsequently, the public will witness “one of the best-known works of the composer Camille Saint Saëns, 'Introduction and capricious rondo', dedicated to the famous violinist Pablo de Sarasate. It is a piece of great virtuosity, perfectly combining passages of high technical complexity and expressiveness,” Godoy explained.

Likewise, she is a harp soloist of the Universidad de Concepción Symphony Orchestra and this 2018 she has projected her work as a soloist, strengthening commitments with the Temuco Philharmonic Orchestra and the professional orchestra of the Coquimbo Region. “We are pleased and honored to receive Patricia as a soloist in this program, after many years in which a harpist did not visit us. She will perform two compositions in the first part of the concert with works by Debussy and Ravel, in the piece 'Tzigane' we will share the stage enjoying many passages together,” said Leonardo Godoy.

diveuls

This is an opportunity for the community to make its voice heard regarding the institutional unit and its usual programming.

The Directorate of Liaison with the Environment and Extension of the University of La Serena (Diveuls), is applying a survey with the objective of incorporating the vision of the community in the development of activities historically carried out and rethinking, if considered, the programming annual of each of its cycles.

For the person in charge of culture, Mg. Fernando Tapia, this is a relevant instance for the development of the different areas of the unit. “The Diveuls is a unit that had to change its paradigm of what it had been doing, basically associated with the concept of extension. Linking with the Environment entails much more study and approaches towards the community, therefore, this survey answers different questions of what we consider is very important to incorporate, especially how the community sees us and how we want to approach our activities. , whether these are academic management, cultural management and also other activities such as the development of our publishing house and bookstore, links with the environment, and also our training courses.”

Tapia also emphasized the importance of knowing the vision that the community has of Diveuls. “Here is a survey that attempts to gather fundamental information to be able to focus the work that will be carried out from now on. One of the things that matters most to us about the results is knowing whether the Diveuls public is satisfied or not with the activities that we have carried out historically, and also knowing if there is any proposal from them to make changes to the activities. activities; or definitely generate new ones. Only then will we address renewed programming.”

The survey is brief, no more than 3 to 5 minutes, and can be answered on the ULS Extension Center Facebook page or on the website www.extension.userena.cl, under the name Cultural Observatory.

Diveuls appreciates that users take the time to answer this survey, which will be very useful for the unit.

second psychology conference

The day provided information about the expert report and what are the characteristics that a psychologist who is going to dedicate himself to this area should consider.

A new conference was given within the framework of the “Psychology and Contemporary Society” cycle, organized by the Department of Psychology in conjunction with the Directorate of Liaison with the Environment and Extension of the University of La Serena. On this occasion, and thanks to a collaborative alliance with the Cuatro Esquinas Community and Cultural Center of the Municipality of La Serena, Mg. Paola Denmark, Director of the ULS School of Psychology, gave the conference “The psychological expert report and its main characteristics”.

Psychological expert reports consist of a document prepared by the forensic psychology expert at the end of the exhaustive evaluation and analysis process of the people involved in a judicial process. In this activity, the academic addressed what forensic psychology is, expert evaluation, what an expert is, and psychological expertise in general.

second psychology conference2In this regard, Denmark commented that “there is precisely a context where in our country people's lives are greatly judicialized. Generally speaking, for example, almost all cases that come to court become judicialized and come to a point where expert evidence is cited. In that sense, it is important to know what are the characteristics that a psychologist who is going to dedicate himself to this area must have, in terms of how to train, also that he must know the laws, that is relevant, but at the same time he must have a respect also in this case for his client, what his rights are, whether he is a victim, witness or perpetrator, and therefore, give advanced conclusions from psychological science.”

This conference was held at the Cuatro Esquinas Community and Cultural Center municipal facility, in a cooperative alliance to bring the academy in a different way to the community. The Mg. Paola Denmark referred to this change that the cycle that has been carried out since 2012 in university facilities has had: “it is a new perspective of also opening up to the community and how it could be realized in the dynamics that were generated here, as As the exhibition progressed, people began to focus on personal aspects that they had to experience, so it is about bringing the academy closer to people's daily reality, in a simpler language and also understanding that psychology is not something abstract. , but rather it has to do with situations of each of the experiences that people live.”

The cycle includes three conferences in the same municipal space. To end the semester, on July 25, “Sexually diverse: updating basic aspects” will be held, taught by Mg. Natalia Guerrero.
