“Psychological Expert Report and its main characteristics” is the title of the second conference of the “Psychology and Contemporary Society” cycle. This activity will be dictated by Mg. Paola Denmark, next Wednesday, June 27 at 11:30 hrs. at the Cuatro Esquinas Community and Cultural Center, a space belonging to the illustrious Municipality of La Serena.  

The object of the psychological expert report is the analysis of human behavior in the field of law and rights. Psychological expert reports consist of a document prepared by the forensic psychology expert at the end of the exhaustive evaluation and analysis process of the people involved. This advice allows us to determine the state of a person's mental health, evaluate whether they have psychological consequences of a traumatic event, determine whether they are suitable for guarding and custody of disabled people, as well as assess whether they are criminally responsible based on a possible mental disorder.

In the invitation, the academic and Director of the School of Psychology of the University of La Serena will address the work of the forensic psychologist, which ends with the translation of his evaluation into a report that is sent to the authority that requested it. In this regard, Denmark commented: “since the expert report is the summary of the work carried out, it is essential that it be written in a correct, structured manner and under a series of considerations. Furthermore, the expert report is a scientific document (Fernández-Ballesteros 2007) that must meet specific technical criteria. “At this conference, these criteria and strategies will be reviewed to prepare an expert report that meets them,” she commented.

The series of conferences “Psychology and Contemporary Society” is organized by the ULS Department of Psychology, in conjunction with the Directorate of Liaison with the Environment and Extension of the university, and during this first semester it is also carried out in collaboration with the Center Community and Cultural Cuatro Esquinas, municipal area where the first three activities take place.

'Our Sounds, Musical Creators of the Coquimbo Region' is the name of the new space that, starting in July, will be broadcast on the 94.5 FM signal, thanks to financing from the National Music Fund, Chilean Music Diffusion line Radios.

Starting its activities in the second semester of 2018, Radio Universitaria FM 94.5 of the U. de La Serena will broadcast a new cycle of programs dedicated exclusively to the dissemination of regional authors and musicians.

This is 'Our Sounds, Musical Creators of the Coquimbo Region', a winning project from the National Music Fund, Chilean Music Radio Broadcasting line, which the ULS radio station applied for and was awarded for the first time, coinciding with the celebration of its 55 years of existence as a means of communication.

This space, broadcast fortnightly, will initially have nine episodes in its first season, which will have a duration of 60 minutes per episode, in which an intimate dialogue will take place with the authors and composers of our area, qualifying said conversation with the sound diffusion of the musical works created by them.

For the Coordinator of the Department of Corporate Communications of the University of La Serena, Mg. Karina Damke, "this program meets the objective of promoting the work of our regional artists, through our radio station, whose main mission is to be a vehicle for the dissemination of artistic, cultural, creative and bonding activities that arise within the University of La Serena and that deserve to be known by the community in general. We are very proud as a team to give life to this project, which consolidates the work that has been done to reinforce the local identity of our programming and for which, this type of financing, is key to the creation of new projects".

The program will begin its broadcasts during the month of July 2018 and will be hosted by Rodrigo Gutiérrez, in addition to the musical production of Daniela Banderas, an academic from the ULS Department of Music, who has selected the nine musical creators from our area , which represent the sound diversity that arises in our territory and especially in the training and academic field that exists within this University.

Among the participants in this space are the composer Gabriel Gálvez, the folklorist Raúl “Talo” Pinto, the composer Esteban Correa and the author Fernando Guede, in addition to musical groups such as Los Changos and Lican Antay, among others that will be part of this first program cycle.

The event will be under the virtuoso baton of the Chilean director Eduardo Browne, who together with the double bass soloist Manuel Figueroa-Bolvarán and the ULS Vocal Ensemble promise an operatic journey to the heart of the Italic boot.

'Bella Italia' is the bold program with which the University of La Serena Symphony Orchestra has decided to say goodbye to the month of June. This is the IV Concert of the 2018 Season, an interesting musical journey towards opera and European sounds, full of emotion, which seeks to amaze attendees through the culture and traditions left by the first Italian families who arrived in La Serena during the fifties decade.

The presentation framed in 'The Symphony of Cultures' dazzles at first glance for its select and dynamic repertoire, as well as for the level of its performers and the mastery of its conductor. This is the artistic director and head of the Camerata de Los Andes, and director of other ensembles belonging to the Department of Music of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Chile, Eduardo Browne.

Throughout his career, the Chilean maestro has stood out for directing countless concerts and operas in various countries, where he has successfully introduced this musical style to national theaters. From his point of view, “it must be recognized that Italy is the cradle of opera and Italian is a language where the gap between what is sung and what is spoken is minimal; Therefore, the composers that we are going to face in this program are of a high operatic level," said Browne, who also referred to the musical imprint that marks the European country: "we must recognize that in the Italian program it cannot be absent what is emitted through the vocal cords, to exclude them would be to ignore, perhaps, the greatest contribution that Italian music has made. This one shines, above all, for its valuable operatic contribution, more than instrumental, which is of a very high level,” he emphasized.

For this new seasonal concert, the roots of 'Bella Italia' will be represented with the Overture 'La Scala di Seta', a comic farce with music by composer Giocachino Rossini; the 'Concert for Double Bass No. 2' by Giovanni Botessini, performed by the soloist and member of the ensemble belonging to the Network of Professional Regional Orchestras of the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage, Manuel Figueroa-Bolvarán; to end with the magnanimous opera 'Gloria' by the composer Antonio Vivaldi, which will feature the dazzling performance of the Vocal Ensemble of the University of La Serena, led by the soloists Camila Gallardo, Vanessa Medo and Javiera Zepeda, conducted by the renowned tenor national Gonzalo Tomckowiack.

In the words of the ULS singing teacher, “Gloria is a wonderful and difficult work to interpret due to its very particular style. It is a piece well known to the public, who has surely heard it in the best versions published around the world (...). For his part, the guest conductor, who reunites with the professional orchestra of the Coquimbo Region after 20 years, delved into this ambitious program: “we are talking about a brilliant and very well-chosen repertoire, where the voice takes center stage and is the synthesis of Italian music. It is very nice to be able to have a city like La Serena and the vocal forces of a choir, this shows that orchestras are a means of expression for the community and when they unite with the local choir, the audiences are strengthened” said Browne, who also referred to the rest of the works: “the important contribution of Italian music is confirmed in Rossini's piece, which is a wonderful composition, very simple, but at the same time very difficult, with a solo of extremely complicated oboe; and then we will see the concerto for double bass, which is very interesting because it is a very difficult instrument to play and making a mistake in tuning costs nothing. The double bass does not have a sound flow as great as its dimensions, so it will be an enormous challenge for the performer,” he said.

The presentation by the string ensemble of the La Serena University Symphony Orchestra reviewed works by famous European composers such as von Dittersdorf, Dvořák and Beethoven.

With an interesting program inspired by the magic and sound of the European continent, the University of La Serena Symphony Orchestra gave life to its II Chamber Music Concert with two sublime dates in the Province of Elqui. A successful event with an intimate and home-like format, which aims to bring this type of repertoires closer to different territories in the region.

The musical journey began with the Austrian violinist Karl Ditters von Dittersdorf and his piece called 'Duetto for viola and double bass, kr.2019'. He also contemplated the work 'Terzetto Op.74 in C Major for two violins and viola', written by the magnanimous Czech composer, Antonín Dvořák; to later culminate the concert with the 'Quartet Op.18 No. 4 in C Minor' by the German genius Ludwig van Beethoven.

The event led by the musicians Leonardo Godoy, Juan Pablo Luengo and Daniel Navea (violins), Lorenzo Cabello and Poliana Brehmer (viola), Monserrat Trujillo (violoncello) and Manuel Figueroa (double bass), had its territorial extension in the commune of La Higuera , where children and adults, including local authorities, witnessed the mark that the string ensemble left on the stage.

For both Dayanisa Ahumada and her mother Lidia Flores, this concert “was very emotional and important. Seeing and listening to these professional musicians are a great reference for her, they encourage her to continue her studies on the instrument and encourage us as parents to support her and strengthen her abilities, so that in the future she can be playing in an orchestra like this one," said the representative of the Carlos Condell School in Caleta Hornos, where Dayanisa has been taking violin classes for three years. This activity began a program of three talks that will be given at the Cuatro Esquinas Community and Cultural Center.

Like every year, the Department of Psychology of the University of La Serena began its cycle of academic conferences entitled: “Psychology and Contemporary Society”, which on this occasion is again organized in collaboration with the Directorate of Liaison with the Environment and Extension of the study house and includes for this year a special strategic alliance with the Cuatro Esquinas Community and Cultural Center, of the Municipality of La Serena.

This program is made up of six useful conferences, in simple language and aimed at the entire community, and began with the theme "Dreams, their psychological and spiritual value", dictated by the academic, Mg. Mauricio Cerda Beroíza, clinical psychologist with a major in Jungian psychology. The conference addressed basic aspects regarding dreams: what they are according to modern psychology, what types of dreams exist, when you dream, and others. In addition, he explained the understanding that Jungian psychology has achieved regarding the art of interpreting dreams and the value they have from a psychospiritual perspective.

Regarding the space and the attendance, given that this is the first of three conferences that the cycle includes in the municipal Community Center space, the academic Mauricio Cerda highlighted: “it seemed like a glove to me, because it has to do with the purpose we have. at the School of Psychology with this series of talks, which is to get closer to the community (...). I thought it was good and I saw that there was a great turnout and clearly part of the turnout is the people who are regulars at this center, so we are meeting the objective.”
