The circus show was successfully presented at the university, where it dazzled students and officials.

For a week the Lez'Artchimistes Aerial Circus and Theater shared the joy of its performances with students and the university community.

The work presented by the company is part of the work that the artistic group has been developing since its formation in June 2011, the result of the meeting between Thibault Clerc and Pamela Pantoja, who together and in collaboration with other artists have developed numerous initiatives, which impact to the public by the way of construction of the new circus, where the technique of aerial dance, theater, physical work and gestures are linked to the dramaturgy of the show, which lasts approximately 50 minutes.

circus2Among some notable activities carried out in conjunction with the ULS Mining Circus, plus the support of the Municipal Theater of La Serena, were the free rehearsals for children of the Telethon.

The presentations of the “Las Frutillitas Show” were attended by more than 800 students from schools and colleges in the commune of La Serena. Body expression workshops and free training in circus disciplines were also held, in which students from the University of La Serena and members of the Mining Circus participated.

The “Varieté de Circo” performances were applauded by students and officials who were delighted with the performances of the Mining Circus and the Lez'Artchimistes Company.

“We hope to repeat these presentations so that our university community is delighted with recreational activities,” commented the DGAE.

Medals were achieved in both the women's and men's categories.

Five medals in the National University Championship held in Valparaíso were won by the Judo Team of the University of La Serena, where the students of the branch faced representatives of university teams that have a great tradition of development in this martial art.

judo2Julio Ávalos Godoy achieved second place (silver medal) in the less than 90 kg category, competing in the final stages for the medal against a member of the national team of the discipline. Like Ávalos, Matías Veliz Gómez obtained his bronze medal (less than 81 kg category) challenging another representative of the national team. Also in the less than 90 kg category, Sebastián Tapia Largo won a bronze medal for the ULS. While Marco Taucano Araya had an outstanding participation in the novice category, obtaining a creditable fifth place in less than 73 kg.

In women, the presentations of Claudia Collinao Rojas stood out, who won a bronze medal in the less than 63 kg category, and Constanza Larrea Rojas, who also won a bronze medal in the less than 57 kg category.

judo3The Higher Education Sports League is a very important university-level competition in our country, being sponsored by the Ministry of Sports and the National Sports Institute, in addition to being the university competition that unites public sector study houses with the private, with 32 institutions participating throughout Chile.

The ULS team defeated its UCM counterpart in the grand final and won the trophy undefeated.

The football team of the University of La Serena was crowned champion of the national university football tournament, men's category, by beating the Catholic University of Maule (UCM) 4 to 2 in the grand final of the Fenaude championship, which was played between on November 1 and 6 on the fields of the Andrés Bello campus of the ULS, in La Serena.

They qualified undefeated in group 4 after drawing 1-1 with the Universidad de Playa Ancha (UPLA), winning 5-1 against the Universidad de Magallanes (UMAG) and drawing 2-2 in the third game against the Universidad San Sebastián (USS).

In the quarterfinals, the ULS defeated Arturo Prat University (UNAP) 3-2. And in the semifinals, the host team had to face the team from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV), where they secured their place in the final by beating them by a score of 3-2.

In this way, after beating Universidad Católica del Maule (UCM) in the final, the teams from the University of La Serena won the 2016 Fenaude National Championship undefeated, improving the results obtained in previous years and thus fulfilling an excellent performance in the tournament.

During the weekend the semifinals and final of the FENAUDE tournament will be played.

With a ceremony held at the sports venue of the Andés Bello Campus of the University of La Serena, the National Men's University Football Championship of the National University Sports Federation (FENAUDE) began.

16 teams compete in this tournament, which have qualified in their respective regions and will seek to win the trophy and the title of 2016 national champion.

The opening day included the participation of the delegations, who swore to maintain an attitude of healthy competition and fair play.

The athletes also received a welcome greeting from the Coordinator of the Department of Physical Education and Sports of the State University, Jaime Sarah San Martín, who highlighted the importance of holding this type of competition at the university level. The ceremony concluded with the presentation of the Tuna Femenina Azahares from the University of La Serena, who delighted those present with their performances.

The round of matches began simultaneously on the two fields of the Andrés Bello Campus, with the matches of the teams from the Universidad de Playa Ancha and the Universidad de La Serena, which tied 1-1; while the Universidad Católica del Maule defeated the Universidad Católica del Norte 4 to 1.

The championship considers a three-day eliminatory phase (from Tuesday to Thursday), and then moves on to the second phase on Friday. From this will come the teams that, during the weekend, will play the semifinals and final of the tournament.

Positive results, considering the relevance and level of the competition, were obtained by the delegation of the University of La Serena that participated in the Zona-Centro athletics tournament of the Higher Education League, held in Valparaíso.

The tournament stood out for a series of technical marks of the highest level. The most outstanding was the mark of 10,57 seconds of the winner of the 100 mts final. male planes, which is close to a world-class record.
