The university group joined the commemoration of the birth of the creator of the work “La Negra Ester”, Andrés Pérez.

This Monday, May 11, National Theater Day was celebrated, in memory of the birth of Andrés Pérez, one of the most relevant creators in contemporary Chilean performing arts who died at the beginning of 2002. That is why, as a way to commemorate the life and work of the creator of “La Negra Ester”, the Experimental Theater Group of the University of La Serena went out through the streets of the city to perform a murga.

In this sense, the Workshop teacher, Claudia Hernández, highlighted the importance of joining the call of the Elqui Theater Group (ATEL). “We stood up with the Group, we went out to commemorate, to march for National Theater Day with all the members of the group,” she said.

Meanwhile, Felipe Ramos, a student who is part of the ULS Experimental Theater Group, valued the opportunity to delve deeper into the development of theater in the region, since it is a critical discipline. “My concern for theater comes from showing a message that goes beyond words, with icons, with pure forms, of changes that Chile needs. I choose theater because I think it fulfills that objective, of showing something that entertains and that at the same time generates impact, contributes,” said the 22-year-old student.

The first workshop was mostly attended by first-year students of the Pedagogy in History and Geography degree, accompanied by professor María Magdalena Quiroz.

On the verge of celebrating 64 years of existence, the Mining Circus of the University of La Serena, dependent on the Department of Extracurricular Activities of the DGAE, is preparing to receive new talents in the circus art. 

circus 2To this end, starting this Wednesday, April 15, physical conditioning workshops will be held (Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 17:00 p.m.), body expression (Monday and Tuesday 18:30 p.m.), trapeze (Tuesday and Wednesday 15:00 p.m. and Saturday 16:00 p.m.), juggling (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 17:00 p.m.), hoop (Thursday 16:19 p.m.), fire (Friday 16:00 p.m.) and fabrics (Wednesday XNUMX:XNUMX p.m.) , in order to prepare the new artists of the only student circus in the world. 

Regular students of the institution, interested in being part of the group, can come to the circus facilities, located on the Isabel Bongard Campus of the ULS.

It is worth remembering that in 2012 the Mining Circus was recognized by the Council of Culture and the Arts as a relevant entity in the culture of the Coquimbo Region and the country.

With the active participation of the students of the University of La Serena, the fourth Self-Care and Wellbeing Day was held, organized by the Department of Student Health and the General Directorate of Student Affairs (DGAE) of the state campus.

The activity, held at the Ignacio Domeyko Campus, in front of the Central Library, once again had stands, where valuable information on first aid, responsible sexuality, oral and mental health, among others, was provided. 

On the day, the EMPA preventive exam was also carried out for first-year students and a Zumba class for all those present. In addition, SENDA personnel were present, providing information on drug and alcohol prevention.

The head of the Student Health Department, Néstor López highlighted the consolidation of this activity at the University and indicated that it is expected to be repeated at the end of the year. “From now on we invite all students to participate in this initiative,” he concluded.
