card

From August 20 to September 5, the process can be carried out, aimed at new students who have to revalidate.

The process to revalidate and acquire the National Student Card began, which will last until September 5.

New students who have already revalidated must pay $2.700 and $1.100 respectively at the University's coffers. Once the procedure has been completed, they must go to the General Directorate of Student Affairs to be entered into the system by the TNE 2014 coordinator, Óscar Daza.

In this regard, Daza stated that it is important that they carry out the process, because it is only a few days long. "We are waiting with the General Directorate of Student Affairs, the students must come, and those who have not completed the process should come so they can have their school pass until May 2015."

Starting August 21, students will be able to request an appointment with social workers through the Phoenix platform.

As part of the policy to improve the quality of the services that the General Directorate of Student Affairs provides to students, the Student Welfare Department launches a new online time recording system for the social workers of each campus of the U. of La Serena.

Starting on August 21, students will be able to request their appointment time in the online agenda of the social worker that corresponds to their career through the Phoenix platform.

In this sense, the general director of Student Affairs of the ULS, Mg. Miguel Zuleta stressed the importance of the measure. “Within the improvements of the General Directorate of Student Affairs and especially in Student Welfare, for certain processes and throughout the academic year, students will be able to access their social assistant via the platform by requesting an hour,” he explained.

Likewise, the coordinator of the Student Welfare Department, Patricia Astroza, stated that the innovation seeks to facilitate the attention of social workers to students. “It is a new project that continues with the line of modernization of Student Welfare management. Service whose purpose is to facilitate expeditious, fast and efficient attention from social workers on the different campuses, which ensures attention and would prevent long waits from being generated in the future when there are processes of high student demand," she indicated. .

Astroza also added that the white march will hesitate until the national holiday break, and then implement it in its entirety. “We are going to implement a period of white march until before the September break and then definitively implement the exclusive online service system. Eventually, if there are emergencies of course or emergent cases that require attention, obviously there is the use of professional judgment and a student will not be neglected,” he said.

It should be noted that the measure was presented by the Department of Student Welfare in the Plenary Session of the Student Federation of the University of La Serena.

This technological innovation will make it possible to provide timely, expeditious and orderly attention to students, especially in high-demand processes; reduce student waiting times for social worker attention, eliminating lines; and that the student can schedule the interview with the social worker in accordance with their academic activities and available time.

The DGAE invites the student community to make use of this new system, which will have a white march period between August 21 and September 14, to come into full use starting September 22.

Questions about the use of this system can be made at the offices of the social workers on each campus or sent to email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

prickly pear anniversary

The prickly pears San Bartolomé de La Serena, Distrito and Femenina Azahares, surprised the attendees in a completely packed Municipal Theater.

Celebrating the anniversary month of La Serena, the XXII Tunas Gala was recently held at the city's Municipal Theater, which included the presence of the tunas from the University of La Serena (San Bartolomé de La Serena, District and Femenina Azahares), which stood out in their presentations.

It should be noted that the Tuna San Bartolomé had almost 30 musicians on stage, being one of the largest. In this sense, the founder of Tuna, Sixto Cortés, pointed out that this is due to the character of brotherhood that exists in the musical group. “The fundamental characteristic of this type of group is that they are brotherhoods and they are always in contact with the group, they do not forget, they have beautiful memories and they do not stop participating once or twice a year, which is why they see that important events are coming. and they get closer, rehearse a couple of times and connect,” said the musician.

The mayor of Serena, Roberto Jacob, expressed that the prickly pears are part of the essence of the city. “I think that during the anniversary month, prickly pears are a must, people ask for them. The thing is that the prickly pear is something happy, it brings back many memories. It is a very nice event, where people delight in it and every time we have a tuno show it is packed, so we feel very satisfied to now have the twenty-second version of this event," he expressed.

Likewise, Andrea Pardo, who attended the event, appreciated the level of the show, although she was very pleased. “It was a very nice, entertaining show, so much so that we would have liked to see a little more. We come from a family in Las Tunas, thanks to my husband and in fact our love and the children came with the prickly pears,” he stated.

Finally, Víctor García had a similar opinion, who stated that “I find this cultural demonstration that we have been able to enjoy at the Municipal Theater very interesting, especially taking into account a new commemoration of the anniversary of La Serena. “I really enjoy these shows, where universities and their students demonstrate in this way.”

agronomy students

The event was part of the second ordinary plenary session of the Council of Agronomy Students of Chile, CEACH.

The Limarí Campus of the University of La Serena was the place chosen by the Student Centers of the CRUCH Agronomy majors, for the second ordinary plenary session of the Council of Agronomy Students of Chile, CEACH.

It should be noted that the CEACH had stopped functioning in 2004 and in 2008 there was a failed attempt to resume it. This was the second meeting, the first was held at the University of Concepción in the month of June.

The purpose of CEACH is to be a voice that unites the country's Agronomy students, strengthening knowledge through seminars and conferences, as well as camaraderie in sports Olympics, among other activities.

The president of the CEC of Agronomic Engineering of the ULS, Emilio Plaza, emphasized the importance of these instances of dialogue between students of the same career. “As president of the Agronomy Student Center, I consider that this type of activities allows us as students and as a University to actively participate within the national reality,” he commented.

Finally, Plaza valued the efforts of the other CECs who came to Ovalle for the plenary session. “Student centers from all over Chile have made an enormous effort to come to our Campus, since the geographical distances are considerable. But they show that the commitment to the future of Agronomy in Chile is concrete,” he stated.

mining circus august

Before a packed Municipal Gymnasium, the ULS group presented the best of its repertoire.

The Mining Circus of the University of La Serena continues its roaming through the Coquimbo Region and this time it was the turn of Punitaqui, whose community enjoyed the presentation of this delegation of 30 artists from the only university circus in the world.

The show was thanks to the invitation of Minera Altos de Punitaqui within the framework of the celebration of Children's Day and the end of miner's week. About 700 people attended the event in which aerial acts such as cloth, simple trapeze, hoop and ladder, and floor acts such as juggling, clowns and the traditional fire-eater were presented.

It should be noted that the ULS Mining Circus is about to turn 63 this August 26, the date on which its first performance in 1951 is commemorated.

August prickly pear

The activity will take place this Saturday, August 9, starting at 21:00 p.m., at the Municipal Theater of La Serena and is free of charge.

As has happened in previous versions, the San Bartolomé and Femenina Azahares prickly pears, dependent on the University of La Serena, will be present at the Tunas Gala organized by the Municipality of La Serena as part of the activities to commemorate the 470 years of our regional capital.

The XXII version of the cultural artistic meeting will take place this Saturday, August 9, starting at 21:00 p.m., at the Municipal Theater of La Serena and is free of charge.

It is worth mentioning that the Tuna San Bartolomé of the ULS, which recently had an outstanding presentation at the "Barrio del Carmen" Contest in Murcia (Spain), has participated in all the galas organized by the Serenense municipality.

“As has become traditional, (la Tuna) will be presented with around 25 to 28 members, among whom are current members, as well as people who have discontinued their active participation, with the La Serena Galas being a reason to meet again. ”said its director, Professor Sixto Cortés.
